Simple & Chic Valentine’s Day Tablescape
If you’re hosting a Valentine’s Day party, here are some ideas for a simple, sweet, & chic Valentine’s Day table! This includes ideas for place settings, buffet styles, centerpieces, and a coffee bar is a mostly-neutral, soft color palette with an organic feel.
Simple is Sweet for A Valentine’s Day Table
A Valentine’s Day tablescape doesn’t have to be complicated. You really can accomplish a festive look with some simple details. Tablescapes are some of my favorite things to design, and this Valentine’s Day set-up was a lot of fun.
Let me walk you through some fun things to consider and what I included.
What to Consider When Decorating a Table for Valentine’s Day
Color Palette
Ideally, you want your color palette to coordinate with the rest of your decor, whether you decorate for Valentine’s Day or not. Red and pinks were hard for me to include since most of my house is a warm, neutral color palette, so I stuck with a mostly neutral color scheme.
I do like to include pale, pale pink, which is sort of in the beige family. A few little pops of red work well on a table, as well.
Gold is another favorite of mine, which I included by using gold taper candles in brass candlesticks.
If you like reds and pinks, go for it! Red provide a bold, vibrant touch where pinks are a little softer and more playful.
Tablecloth and Runner
A tablecloth nor a runner are must-haves. You can create a gorgeous table without them. My table is a little scratched up from my kids and is need of a makeover. I tried the table without a tablecloth first.
I also tried it with a tablecloth. In this case, I layered 3 sheer curtain panels for a soft, feminine touch.
I used a more bold black and white hand drawn heart table runner to provide some interest and contrast.
I like to add eucalyptus garland to tables for a more organic feel. In the past, I’ve used fresh flowers in bud vases as part of my table runner, but because the garland had enough going on, I opted out this year.
Instead, I added a few battery-powered votive candles in snack cups!
Centerpieces
I honestly think fresh flower are enough for a Valentine’s Day centerpiece. Floral arrangements of roses, tulips, or peonies are all gorgeous for Valentine’s Day.
Floating candles are also gorgeous for a simple centerpiece.
This year, I wanted something low profile, so I filled a dough bowl with faux greens, woven XOXO fillers along with white yarn hearts (some I made, some I bought from Hobby Lobby).
This dough bowl tied in the neutral, organic feel I was going for!
Place Settings
Because my table runner had enough activity, I kept things simple with my table settings. I used plastic scalloped party plates underneath a pale pink heart plate. I inserted a simple heart paper napkin on the side.
I also stacked some heart themed Valentine bowls on the table as well.
You could also stack the plates on the table if you’re doing more of a buffet style meal. In that case, I would place the plastic gold flatware in a jar on the table instead of at each place setting.
You could also include fun placemats and charger plates as well.
As a little ‘treat’, I added a mini-cupcake wrapper filled with M&Ms for guests to snack on! If you wanted to make things extra special, you could also include name cards or a small favor near each plate.
I also kept treats in a heart shaped serving tray on the table.
Coffee Bar
Near the dining table is also a coffee bar for guests to help themselves to. It includes a mini single-serve Keurig machine, stackable ceramic heart mugs (I got mine at TJ Maxx- they always have a fun variety!) as well as Valentine to-go cups.
There are also a few snacks for guests, too.
Easy Tablescape for Valentine’s Day!
