25 Best Cozy & Classy Winter Porch Decorating Ideas
Are you looking for some cozy decorating for the winter season? The porch is a great place to start! Take a look at some gorgeous porches to inspire you to create a winter wonderland right outside your own front door! These are the best easy and elegant ideas for the winter months!
Why Decorate a Front Porch for Winter
I probably don’t need to convince you to decorate your porch for winter. If you’re here, you’re probably already committed to it. Or maybe you’re just contemplating it.
But if you’re on the fence, I’ll tell you why I particularly like creating a winter porch, and why I think you should, too.
After the holiday season has wound down, I’m all about winter decor that is clean, simple, and fresh for the new year.
While I do decorate for winter inside my house, I try to scale it back just a bit to a more minimalist look.
But I just can’t leave a front porch undecorated.
Spring is still a good 3 months away, and it’s too early for Valentine’s Day. There has to be something there to take the place.
Sure, you can keep your Christmas porch intact until you’re ready to change it up, but I need something to transition during this time of the year.
Winter front porch decor is just the thing.
How to Decorate Your Outdoor Space for Winter
The nice thing about winter decorating is that it’s more like winter ‘undecorating.‘
A lot of times, you can use a lot of your existing Christmas decor (such as a mix of evergreens or an artificial Christmas tree with a plain string of lights, especially if you have a covered porch).
One of the best ways to create outdoor winter decorations is to remove the red pops of color from your outdoor Christmas decorations – such as red berries and red ribbons from a traditional wreath – and exchange them for more generic winter decorations.
So the first thing to do is to see what you can use that is already displayed!
You also want to think of natural elements that you can easily include in window boxes, a winter planter, an olive bucket, or a porch pot: pine boughs, birch logs, pine cones, and bare branches.
Sometimes a local nursery will have leftover scraps of Christmas trees, pine or cedar clippings that you have!
You can also keep up your faux or real garlands.
Other easy winter porch decor can be snow-themed: snow flakes, snowman decor, skis, snow shoes, sleds, ski lodge signs, and ice skates.
You can also include signs and welcome mats with a winter theme (non a Christmas theme), such as Welcome Winter, Baby It’s Cold Outside, and Let It Snow.
You may have used signs and decorations like this as outdoor holiday decor, but they work perfectly for winter outdoor decorations, too!
My only real advice is to not go overboard, especially if you plan to decorate for Valentine’s Day (unless that makes you happy!). You just want to add your home’s curb appeal to hold you over until the next season.
