Don’t Give Into the Winter Blues!

It can be real easy to sink into the post-Christmas blues this time of year. Once the holiday decorations are put away and the Christmas tablescape has been disassembled from the dining room table, things can feel a little bleak.

Personally, I love the cleanliness of de-Christmasing, but I also need a little something to hold me over until Valentine’s Day and spring.

To fight the winter blues, I’m a big fan of winter decorating.

I have lots of tips for a cozy winter home (as well as before and after pictures of how I’ve transitioned from Christmas to winter decor in my own house).

But really, it can be as simple as removing the red Christmas decorations, leaving the green behind, and adding in some natural elements such as a cedar or rosemary sprig, pine cones, and snowy accents.

And since we spend a lot of time at our dining table (and not just for eating), a winter tablescape is a wonderful way to create cozy home.

How to Create a Winter Tablescape

I say this a lot, but I’m a firm believer – there are no hard, fast rules on how to decorate.

You need to do what YOU love in YOUR home, and what will work for YOUR family.

The first thing you’ll want to do is decide what kind of winter table you want to create and what will work in your home.

That might mean a winter tablescape that is a simple pretty winter centerpiece or simple winter vignette in a tray in the center of the table.

It might mean that you have a table set for family or company, with a placemat or charger, a dinner plate and maybe a salad plate too, and a full place setting.

Maybe you just want a themed tablescape with winter home decor running the length of the table through the center.

The pictures are meant to inspire you with all kinds of winter magic and fun things you can include on your own table.  They are not meant to pressure you!

What to Include in a Winter Tablescape

This post may contain affiliate links. See Full Disclosure Policy.

Here are a few suggestions of things you may want to include to create your own winter wonderland on the dining table.

First, take a look at what holiday decor you can use.

Many times, you already have a lot of what you need!

Repurposing staple items such as a neutral tablecloth or white taper candles or a votive holder can go a long way and save a lot of money!

A large amount of Christmas decor can also be used as winter decor!

Once you’ve sorted through your own decor, you may also include some other budget-friendly items on your table (in addition to your place settings, if you’re doing that), such as:

Pine Cones

Fresh Cut Greens in Vases

Outdoor Branches

Faux Greens and Garlands (cedar, eucalyptus or pine)

Table Runners (scarves are fun, wintery options!)

Various Faux Evergreen Trees

Snowy Embellishments (wood snowflakes, faux snow)

Candles (chunky candle holders with pillar candles, candlesticks with taper candles, votives with tea lights)

Lanterns

Dough Bowls
