Valentine Tic Tac Toe: The Quintessential Valentine’s Day Game
When I first started out blogging, I wrote a blog post with these easy and cute XO cupcakes that you could make.
I love XO for Valentine’s Day – not just for the hugs and kisses, but also for how seamlessly it transfers to a fun kid-friendly game – Tic Tac Toe!
In that post, I included a printable Tic Tac Toe board to use if you wanted to play with the cupcakes before you ate them. My boys are a little older now (almost 8!), but we did this last year, and it was still a hit!
Then I realized that there is still more untapped fun in tic tac toe valentines as February 14th rolls around.
Today I want to share some cute Valentine cards that your kids can give out to their classmates, or you can print off to enjoy as a family!

Valentine’s Day Tic Tac Toe Cards and Game Pieces

How to Play Tic Tac Toe
I am assuming that most people know the rules of the game.
The first player is ‘X’. The second player is ‘O’. Each player takes turns placing their X or O, in the board, with the winner being the first to get 3 in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally).

XO (hugs and kisses) seamlessly translates to an easy Valentine’s Day game!
What’s Included in These Valentine’s Day Printables
This PDF file is for personal use only! Commercial use is prohibited.
When you fill out the box at the end of this post, you will be able to download the entire bundle: 4×4″ Valentine’s Day Cards on one side, game boards to be printed on the back, corresponding XO game pieces, and printable bag toppers.
This digital file is so easy to use – just print your own cards on white cardstock on your home printer! Once you print them out, the game cards are meant to be given out to classmates in plastic or cellophane bags.
This non-candy Valentine be given out as-is. It’s a complete set, making it an inexpensive Valentine’s Day idea.
All you need are clear bags (the perfect size to fit in square snack bags from Walmart), card stock, and your printer (professional printer not needed!)!

These Tic Tac Toe Valentine’s Day cards are a pretty easy project to put together! You can even get the kids involved in the cutting and assembling and stapling the topper to the top of the bag.
It’s a great option for last minute cards for the entire class and will provide entertainment as well!
I’m a huge fan of adorable valentines that are low prep! I love that this classic game is fun for all ages, even the little ones can join in (even if they don’t fully get it!)
Not only can you give these out as class cards, but these tic-tac-toe boards are also designed to be a fun way to enjoy Valentine’s Day with our kids or at a Valentine’s Day party, too!
Other Options for Valentine’s Day Tic-Tac-Toe Games
While this is a complete set and you do not need to buy a thing outside of cardstock and plastic bags, here are some other ways you can use this set or level up Tic Tac Toe.
Use Candy
If you don’t want to use the game pieces, you can also use Valentine’s Day candy in different colors – different color Hershey’s Hugs and Kisses or just Hershey’s Kisses, a pack of Tic Tacs (pithy choice for Tic Tac Toe – but be careful as they may be a choking hazard for littler ones), or two different kinds of sweet treats (Reese’s Valentine’s Day Peanut Butter Cups, Sweet Tarts, Gummi Candy Hearts, Conversation Hearts, etc.).
Even Hershey’s Chocolate Hearts are super-cute and would work, too!

Just be sure to include 5 pieces of each color, so both sides will have an equal opportunity to win!
As long as you include two different colors, with 5 of each color, you’re fine to use just about any kind of candy or treat!
Valentine Exchange M&Ms are also a fun treat to include as well. In one snack size bag, there usually are enough of 2 different colors to play a game of Tic Tac Toe!

Any of your child’s favorite candies will work!
Candy is a simple way to make a fun game even sweeter.
Use XO Pretzel
Yes, you can actually buy pretzels with XO shapes! Those are perfect to use with these free printables, especially if you want to give a non-candy Valentine treat!
This is an easy way to include a little snack with the free printable game while still avoiding the sugar.
Use a Foam Board
Another option if you want to enlarge the scale a bit is to take a piece of foam board and use fun Valentine washi tape to create your own playing board! The cupcakes that I shared earlier are perfect for a Valentine’s Day Tic Tac Toe game and a great way to level it up!
It’s also fun to make for a class party, where you can serve XO cupcakes or treats!
You can also print out a larger Valentine’s Day Tic Tac Toe PDF printable right here!

How To Assemble
Print out page 1 and 2 of the PDF – the front ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’ message and the game boards to go on the back. There are 4 cards to a page, so determine the correct number that you’ll need.
They are designed to be perfectly aligned to be printed double-sided. If your printer does this automatically, you’re golden.

If you need to manually put the cardstock back into your printer, be sure to do some tests to make sure you put it in the right way so it prints correctly (ask me how I know, lol).
There is a space on the front of the card for your child to fill out his or her name.
Page 3 are the XO pieces – 4 sets to a page. Print out the equal number of game pieces.
You have two options with the game pieces. First, you can cut the individual pieces and insert them in the bag.

Or you can leave them as one sheet for the kids to cut out themselves.

The bag toppers are only 3 to a page, so you’ll need to do the math to see how many to print out, but it will be a few more pages than the first 3 pages (since those are all 4 to a page).
Once you have it all printed out, use the faint grey lines to cute the boards and pieces.
Print the toppers and cut out on the faint grey lines. If your child wants to put the names of his or her classmate or write his or her own message, there’s a space on the back of the bag topper for them to do so.
Place boards and pieces in a bag. Include candy or other treats if you desire! Fold the topper over the bag and staple or use glue dots.
