If you need some inspiration for decorating your home for fall, we’ve got you covered! Inside you’ll find beautiful rustic fall decorating ideas for your mantel and fireplace area, your outdoor front porch, and your kitchen and dining area.
Fall Home Decorating. Finally.
After the crazy year we’ve had (and are having?), who is ready for some cozy fall comfort? For so, I know that life has worn me out and I will not be sad at all about hunkering down the cooler weather comes.
Slowly, I’m rounding the corner to fall decor. And to me, cozy rustic fall decorating is where it’s at. And there are some fun boho spins to add in there to keep up with some trending decor, while also keeping the farmhouse coziness.
So When Should You Start Decorating for Fall?
That’s always the big question, right?!?
We usually think of September bringing in fall, but it’s totally acceptable to start gathering and planning in mid-August, and then have most of it ready to go as soon as the calendar flips to September.
You’ll get about 2-3 solid months out of this decor before you move onto holiday decorations.
Some like to keep fall decor up through Thanksgiving. I’m trending more to making the switch in November because to me, Thanksgiving is kind of the start of the Christmas season. But it’s totally up to you.
As I’m getting ready for fall decorating, in mid August, I’ve pulled out the decorations and am gathering allll the ideas and inspiration.
How Can I Decorate My Home for Fall Cheap?
Now that’s usually the second question (or maybe first, lol). I have an entire post I wrote about decorating for fall on a budget, which you can take a look at here. So, using that framework, here’s some of what I do.
Before heading to the store, I like to inventory my own stuff and see what I have that I can use, what I can repurpose, and what I can DIY.
To get some new DIY/upcycling inspiration, I reread this post of fall home DIY ideas to see if there were any new projects I wanted to try this year. I also go through list of DIY Fall Farmhouse Wreaths to get some inspiration.
Instagram is always a go-to for inspiration, too.
But if DIY isn’t your thing and you’d rather just run to Hobby Lobby or Michael’s, today will give you lots of ideas, too.
The fall inspirations below are stunning. There will be no shortage of ideas for you to choose from to get your home fall-ready.
And they are cozy as well as classy.

Classy Fall Home Decor Inspiration and Trends
This season you’ll also see some moody deeper tones – like dark blues, plums and some earthy clay colors. That all adds to the richness of the fall coziness and warmth. Last year, I took advantage of that by going with a copper and navy fall theme.
Besides your traditional or rustic farmhouse, you’ll see a lot more modern and boho farmhouse themes in there as well.
While I’m personally a huge fan of modern rustic decor, there are so many ways to modify these designs to your personal taste and the space you have available.
If you don’t have a mantel, for example, any table display area would work just as well. Let these inspirations be your starting point, and see where you end up!
{If you happen to need a little tutorial on rustic decor and how to put that together, you can look at this post. It’s an overview of rustic decor as well as how to incorporate that into mantels, which is perfect for fall!}

This is a great example of neutral fall decor that easily translates from summer to fall. The greens in the jars coordinate perfectly with the green and cream-colored pumpkins. This is a beautiful set up if your home decor is lighter and the traditional fall colors could clash.

Rich hues with a lot of depth and moodiness are a fabulous alternative if light and airy isn't the way you want to go for fall.
from Liz Marie Blog
This is actually a potting table, but this design can work on any flat surface - a console table, a shelf, a mantel. It would even look amazing on a porch. Terra cotta pots and white pumpkins are a fantastic combo.
from Bless This Nest
Here's another wonderful mantel that would look amazing on a shelf or table as well. The rustic wood pieces mixed with the vibrant greens of eucalyptus look stunning together. This is perfectly executed.

I especially love this mantel because it's created primarily through the use of color. It communicates that fall coziness through all the rich and warm fall tones, without a lot of your typical fall-themed decor like pumpkins and wall art! Masterfully decorated!
from Landeelu
Window panes with a wreath are a simple way to create an amazing fall mantel! (Here are lots of ideas for DIY wreaths, too!). The wheat stalks are a perfect harvest touch along with the word art sign. I just love the rich, moody colors here.

This is another way to go if you want a more neutral fall mantel, but less of the whites. This mantel is predominantly styles in golds, tans, and beige hues. It has a monochromatic feel, with just the right bursts of contrast.
from The Frugal Homemaker Blog
Natural elements lead the way on this one! Faux leaves, berries, and wheat work perfectly with the real pumpkins and flowers. The candles, rustic bench, and crates add just the right cozy touch! The attention to detail here is perfect!

This is a super-clean, minimalist option for fall decor. You can see the silver dollar eucalyptus with the oversized sign on the mantel with hand-chosen decor for the coffee table that accents it perfectly.
from A Hundred Affections, 2021
This is my home from 2021... that year, I did a lot of tray vignettes for coffee tables, entry way tables, sideboards. I'm a big fan of using vignettes for fall decorating. This one was one of my favorites. I love the rich colors and combination of textures.

I love how crisp and clean this entryway is! The pops of brightness from the black-eyed susans and pumpkins are ideal if you have a white and bright area!

If you like the dark moodiness of fall, you'll love this post. The rich, dark colors compliment that cozy, gets-dark-at-4:30 kind of feeling. Truly masterful.

If you have a hutch or a coffee bar, this is the way to go! Take in those details: the buntings, the signs, the 3-tiered tray, the galvanized buckets and pails. This is rustic perfection.
from Thrifty Decor Chick
As someone who has a slight addiction to candy corns once I get started, I can't say enough about this. I LOVE how original it is - and how EASY! Just watch out for the kiddos on this one!
from A Hundred Affections 2022
I wanted to go a little different way for these shelves this year... using fall colored elements and stems, but no pumpkins or signs. That's a big switch for me! I polled my Instagram followers and some thought maybe one pumpkin. I conceded and added 2 small white ones, lol.
But I really liked the calming, vintage feel for these cozy shelves.

You can never go wrong with candles, berries, and pumpkins in a rustic box for a fall centerpiece. Easy to put together but a very striking effect!

Just a few well-placed items on the table are all you need! The vintage box is so original and works perfectly to stage the pumpkins, signs, and branches. A beautiful, rustic effect.

from Julie Blanner
This is another one of my favorites - because we usually forget the apple when it comes to fall decor! This is a great way to get started in September, and the apples could easily be switched out for pumpkins as the season progresses. Love this one!
