There’s NOTHING Like Fall
When I was teaching, right around this time of the year, I used to get knots in my stomach as summer ended and fall approached. Not anymore! After I had my twin boys 4 years ago and became a SAHM, I realized how amazing fall is. Oh my gosh, with all the back-to-school stress, I honestly had no idea fall so so amazing! I completely missed it every year.
Well, now – hello, new favorite season! The weather is perfect, there are so many fun outdoor activities, and the smells and flavors of fall are soooo good. {And a TON of fun things to do – Here are 100 Super-Fun Family Fall Activities to get you started!}
The stores do a really good job of getting you in the fall mood while it’s still hot as heck in the summer, but there is something that sort of builds in anticipation, almost like Christmas, once I see the fall decor coming out.
And the wheels in my brain start turning for new fall decor DIY projects.
Rustic Farmhouse Fall Decor on a Budget
If you’re like me, I’m walking through Hobby Lobby or Target, and I want everything. If you’re also like me, you do not have even an inkling of a budget for everything. Or even a lot. More like hardly anything.
So, in my forced domestication as a SAHM, I’ve become a fan of the DIY projects. I’m not saying I’ve come close to mastering them, but I like them and I aspire to be Pinterest-worthy.
Rustic and farmhouse decor is definitely a thing these days, and when you mix it with fall, it is the coziest thing since apple cinnamon candles, pumpkin spice lattes, while snuggled under blankets watching Little House on the Prairie reruns. (And you can try some of these delicious apple and pumpkin recipes to really complete the cozy-comfort-effect!)
If you need a little inspiration for some cozy DIY fall decor projects with some rustic flair, keep reading. I’m sure you’ll find something you love, that’s just in your skill set!
Fall is so cozy, that even projects like this have built-in forgiveness for lack of perfection. You really can’t go wrong.

How to Style Fall Decor DIY Projects
In a few days or weeks, you’ll have all these great projects finished. Now what? If you need a little support in how to arrange all these amazing crafts you put together, I find that looking at pictures really helps me a lot.
Sometimes, I know I love something, but I can’t always see how it fits in with everything else.
If you’re like me, I have some help. I put together a post with 30 different fall decorating vignette ideas – mantels, kitchens, entryways, and tabletops. I think this will give you a good idea of how some of these projects can work together in different locations and with other decor.
Another great way to use these projects is not just indoors, but outdoors! Some of these pieces would look fantastic out on the porch (and I’ve got a ton of ideas for Farmhouse Fall Porches right here- as well as some decorating tips!)
If you’re just starting out with all this, it can feel like a lot in the beginning. But I’ve found that little by little, each year, you just add and do a little bit more.
Trying to do every room, for every season, can definitely be overwhelming.
But you’ll see, as your fall decor collection grows, you’ll be moving things around, you’ll pick up a bargain at Hobby Lobby at the end of the season, and before long, you’ll have your farmhouse fall decor around your home, just the way you want it.
OK! Let’s start those DIY projects!
