Last year, I was pretty shocked when I was looking through my Instagram feed the day after Thanksgiving.
Lots of my friends were sharing their Thanksgiving pictures, and I saw a ton – I mean, a TON – of tables all set up with disposable Thanksgiving decor – paper plates, plastic cutlery.
They all looked gorgeous – but it confirmed to me that a lot of people want easy rather than fancy.
Who wants to be washing dishes on Thanksgiving or a Friendsgiving party? You want that time to be spent with friends and family!
This year, I put together a cozy tablescape using simple disposable paper plates and plastic cutlery that look anything but cheap!
You really can make your guests feel special and create a gorgeous Thanksgiving table—without spending a fortune (or washing a mountain of dishes afterward).
The Theme: White Pumpkins, Fall Florals, and Moody Colors
I fell in love with Hobby Lobby’s white pumpkin and fall floral collection this season. The soft cream mixed with deep, moody autumn colors create a cozy and warm table that’s perfect for Thanksgiving.
I would recommend checking out the store in person, as some of their inventory can be sold out online.
Also, this post is more of a ‘proof of concept.’ You don’t need to use Hobby Lobby supplies. It’s just to demonstrate that you can use any disposable table set and create a stylish, welcoming, and impressive table.
You can grab gorgeous paper plates and coordinating dinnerware sets at Amazon and Walmart, too!
Here’s what I purchased:
Plaid Vinyl Tablecloth (I bought 2 since we have a large table for Thanksgiving)
Large Oval Dinner Plates
Matching Round Pumpkin Small Plates
Napkins (2 sets – to match the pumpkins and the tablecloth)
Copper-Colored Plastic Cutlery
Matching Pumpkin Silverware Holder (probably my favorite part!)
“I am Thankful for…” Wall Sign
Place Settings
In the above picture, you can see that I placed the plaid napkin on top of a jute placemat to add some contrast.
Then I laid down the plaid napkin in the center bottom and placed the large plate on top.
To the left is the silverware sleeve.
To the upper-right is the pumpkin napkin with a brown-tinted plastic cup (from Home Goods. Not disposable!)
I also did another version with the white pumpkin dessert (or salad) plate on top.
Down the center of the table, I lined up a few small white pumpkins on top of my favorite table runner, to mirror the design on the plates. They’re simple, inexpensive, and added a little extra decor.
I used the same DIY centerpiece and candles that was on my fall table. The colors worked perfectly together.
Let me show you how it all came together:
Printable Thanksgiving Place Cards
This part is optional – but I created coordinating place cards in 2 different designs to go match the plates and overall theme.
These are made to be tent-folded, or you can put them in place card holder (these pumpkin card holders match perfectly!)
I created one new version in a white pumpkin and floral pattern that says, ‘Give thanks to the Lord.’ There’s also a page with no text on it as well.
I also included a set I made a few years ago that matches perfectly with this decor – in both ‘Give thanks to the Lord’ and a ‘no-text’ version.
You can use these at each table setting or as food labels to go in front of your dishes in a buffet line.

Gratitude Focus
To keep the reason why we celebrate front and center, I also picked up this matching “I’m Thankful For” wall sign for family and friends to fill out throughout the day (also at Hobby Lobby).
You can also just use a piece of Kraft paper, butcher paper, a faux pumpkin – or really anything – for your friends and family to write out what they’re grateful for.
This can also be a really special keepsake that you pull out and add to each year!
Why I Love Using Disposable Decor
Let me assure you that using disposable tableware doesn’t mean sacrificing style. If you choose pieces with cohesive colors and patterns, everything feels intentional, put-together, and not in any way ‘less than.’
Plus, when the meal is over, cleanup takes minutes—leaving you more time to relax and enjoy the day with your family.
