Turkey Oreo Pops: A Fun and Festive Treat

At my house, Oreo turkeys are one of our favorite Thanksgiving sweets to make. These adorable Oreo Turkeys made from Oreos and candy corn are such a fun, easy treat for kids. My twin sons get so excited every time we make a new version of Oreo pops, and this year’s Oreo Candy Corn Turkey version might be the cutest one yet.

It honestly cracks me up when I look at them… like these turkeys know what’s coming. 🤣

I’ve made chocolate-covered Oreos for just about every holiday — Easter, Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation, Father’s Day (baseball-themed!), the 4th of July, and even a summer beach version. But these Oreo Turkeys for Thanksgiving are the most fun, I think.

Be warned, though. There’s quite a bit of sugar involved, so serve these turkey-themed chocolate treats in moderation.

If you’re looking for simple, no-bake Oreo Turkey treats for kids, grab some Oreos, candy corn, and chocolate — you’re about to make the sweetest little Turkey Oreos with candy corn ever.

These Oreo turkeys can be given out for a classroom Thanksgiving party, sold at a bake sale, given as a gift, or eaten on Thanksgiving Day!

Let’s get to it!

Ingredients for Oreo Cookie Turkeys

I got most of my materials at Walmart. I linked them up in case you want to just add them to your cart!

Almond bark (3 squares for 10 Oreo pops; 4 squares for a dozen +, etc. Roughly, 1 square = 3 pops) 

Double Stuff Oreos (make sure it’s Double Stuff or Mega Stuff!)

6″ Plastic treat sticks

Candy eyes

Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups (use Rolos if there’s a peanut allergy -or you can omit)

M&Ms (you only need the orange ones)

Bag of Candy Corn

Cellophane Pop Covers (Optional)

Instructions for Turkey Oreo Pops

1| Prep the Candy

Before beginning to make the Oreos, prep the candy. Cut mini peanut butter cups (or Rolos) in half.  You’ll be using the top half (the larger side).

If you can fit the eyes and beak on the small side, feel free to use that, too!

Cut the orange M&M’s in half.

2| Melt the almond bark

Melt bark in microwave starting for 1 minute, using a microwave safe bowl. Then, stop and stir in 30 second increments, so it doesn’t burn. Often, if there are still chunks, you can stir it and it will melt, without needing to microwave again.

 

I found that 1 minute, 30 seconds was perfect for about 3-4 squares of almond bark.

2| Add sticks to Oreos

After bark is melted, add pop sticks to Oreos. Hold the Oreo firmly in your hand to keep the sides from separating. Insert stick in the cream of the Oreo, about 3/4 of the way through.

Generally, Double Stuff work best. However, I did use one batch of Double Stuff that cracked every time I put the stick in. I’ve made these several times, and that happened only once. 

Mega Stuff can be a little heavy, but the idea is that you need more ‘stuff’ than just regular Oreos.

3| Coat Oreos with melted bark

Add a dollop of bark to the top of the Oreo and swirl it with a spoon to flatten.

 

Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl so the excess chocolate will drip down the sides and create a flat surface.

Liberally add melted bark to the sides of the Oreo so the sides of the cookies are covered. Be sure to make sure the chocolate gets on the place where the stick meets the cream, to act as kind of a seal.

Gently tap again on the side of the bowl so the excess will drip off.

Flip the cookie over and repeat. Place cookie pops on silicone mat or parchment paper.

4| Decorate cookies

While the chocolate is still wet, use a lollipop stick to dot the M&M and place on the lower part of the circle in the center to create the beak.

Do the same with the eyes and place them on the round chocolate circle above the beak.

Place the chocolate on the lower part of the Oreo, in the center.

***Option: If you’re omitting the chocolate peanut butter cup or Rolo, just place the eyes and beak directly to the Oreo. The chocolate is still wet, so you don’t need to dot the eyes and the M&M beak.  It still comes out super-cute!

 

Then, place 4-5 candy corns around the top of the chocolate circle, with the points facing down, fanning out to create the feathers.

5| Allow cookies to harden

You can let the cookie pops lay on the countertop to dry – or put them in the fridge to speed things up.

Once they are dry, add the cellophane wrapper and gift or sell!
