Welcome to the Holiday Home Tour! I’ve joined up with 34 other bloggers to share our Christmas homes with you! Come see how I used an earthy color palette and natural Christmas decor for an organic-inspired home!

Holiday Home Tour Underway

Hi! If you’re here for Holiday Home Tour, welcome! I’m so glad you made to my page!

By way of intro, my name is Kate – I’m a homeschool mom of 10-year-old twin boys, former English teacher-turned-blogger – and I love to share creative, budget-friendly ideas to create a home that builds your family and community and honors God!

We are just a regular family – much more casual than fancy😂. We live real life in our house – and while I love pretty aesthetics, we don’t aim for perfection and I need things to function, since we spend a LOT of time at home together.

We celebrate a Christ-centered Christmas over here. The pretty decorations are really the backdrop for how we want to use our home for the holidays: to welcome others in, to serve, to show generosity, to build memories together in our traditions as a family.

But, most importantly, we want our home to honor Jesus at the primary focus of all our Christmas celebrating.

Today I’m sharing my version of Christmas at our house this year – no AI, just real life! Thanks for being here!

My Approach to Organic, Earthy Christmas Decor

This post contains affiliate links. See Disclosures for details.

I’ve gone in a few different directions over the years when it comes to Christmas decorating. This year is a more grounded version of last year, I’d say.

Last year, I did white, gold, and green color palette, with a lot of sparkle. This year, it’s in a similar color family… but earthier.

Dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, pinecones, and decorative ornaments on a marble surface for holiday and Christmas decor.

There are a few pops of red, although I usually use berries if I’m going to use red. But not wanting to buy all brand-new decor and use what I had on hand, there are a few spaces where I put a little bit of red.

My overall approach, besides colors, consisted of:

  • Earthy, organic colors: Deep green, chocolate brown, muted gold, cinnamon… inspired by a natural color palette.
  • Objects from nature: Think cinnamon sticks, pinecones, orange slices, birch, pine, cedar, floral arrangements, and berries (both faux and real).
  • Velvet: This year, I incorporated velvet more than I ever have. Velvet ribbons, velvet ornaments, velvet pillows. It’s a simple way to create an elevated feel mixed in with all the nature elements and textures.
  • Lots of ribbons: It is by far the easiest way to add a Christmas-y touch to just about anything! I used it EVERYWHERE!
  • Repurposing: I repurposed a lot of everyday day decor and made it Christmas-y with just a few tweaks.
  • DIYs: Crafting is fun for me, so I love adding in some handmade Christmas decor as well as adding DIY touches to decor I have.

OK, so let’s see this in action!

Porch

This year, I used a lot of the same decorations I did last year, with a few tweaks.

Cozy farmhouse porch decorated for Christmas with plaid blanket, greenery, lanterns, and rustic accents, creating welcoming holiday curb appeal.

The DIY wreath on the door and the swag were crafts from last year. I loved them so much I wanted to use them again.  This year, I replaced the ribbon for a brown velvet one, and I actually think I love it even more!

Lush holiday wreath with greenery, pinecones, eucalyptus, and a brown satin bow hanging on a black door for festive decor.

Rustic Christmas door hanger with black bells, evergreen sprigs, and a brown ribbon bow for holiday decor.

I added more brown ribbon on a repurposed jug where I put winter green stems and some brown and gold embellishments.

Festive holiday flower arrangement in black ceramic vase with ribbon, pine branches, ornaments, and greenery on porch with brick wall background.

For the porch, I do like pops of red because it stands out a lot more when you’re looking at it from the street.

You can see that in the planter arrangement, the wreath on the vintage windowpane, and the blanket on the chair.

Vintage holiday lanterns and festive winter floral arrangement with pinecones and red berries.

Rustic holiday wreath featuring pine branches, red berries, and pinecones, hung on vintage distressed window frame with brown cloth bow for Christmas decoration.

Cozy Christmas porch decor with wreaths, greenery, and festive accents for holiday warmth and charm.

And here it is all together:

Christmas Tree

I like to go somewhat simple and uncluttered for the living room Christmas tree (we do a more ‘eclectic’ family tree in the den!).

Here’s the tree with the lights off. It helps to decorate and take a picture of the tree this way first, because you can see the ornament placement much better!

Decorated Christmas tree with rustic, natural ornaments, ribbons, and dried citrus slices, creating a cozy, elegant holiday centerpiece for festive home decor.

Again, this is similar to last year’s tree in that it’s neutral.

But instead of gold birds, gold ornaments, and clip-on candles, I used a lot of nature inspired ornaments: orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and pinecones. (These were from a pack I bought on Amazon because I was tight on time, but I’ve DIYed the oranges and foraged for pinecones in the past!)

I also used DIY applesauce cinnamon ornaments I made a few years ago.

Ornament decorated Christmas tree with gold baubles, star-shaped cookie, and ribbons, illuminated by warm fairy lights, capturing festive holiday spirit and cozy winter celebration.

I added ribbons to the orange slices and bows to the pine cones to give it a cozier, more organic feel than a rustic one.

Dried orange slice decoration hanging on a Christmas tree with warm fairy lights, holiday ornament, festive winter decor, natural Christmas ornament, eco-friendly holiday decor.

I also used velvet ornaments in that earthy color palettethese came with ribbons and bows! They are super-cozy to have with in these deep colors.

Here’s the full tree with the lights on:

Living Room

Below, you can see the layout of the living room. We have a 1960s basement rancher, so our living room is on the long and narrow side.

Festive Christmas living room decorated with a tall Christmas tree, cozy seating, holiday pillows, and rustic decor, creating a warm and inviting holiday atmosphere.

Wall Shelf

On the wall is a DIY shelf I made when we first moved in 7 years ago.

My favorite part about how this shelf is decorated is the ornaments!

Rustic holiday decor with white and dark branches, Christmas ornaments, greenery, and a "Peace on Earth" framed sign on a wooden shelf.

I did a quick decoupage on the ornaments with festive napkins and added them to both trees (the one on the left is a centerpiece from my wedding! I love incorporating meaningful decor to my home).

Hand-painted Christmas ornament hanging on a decorative tree with crystal bead garlands, festive holiday decor, handcrafted holiday ornament, winter holiday decoration, Christmas ornament art.

Decorated tree branch with hanging ornaments and bead garlands, elegant home decor centerpiece, stylish accent for interior spaces.

This shelf has a little gold and red, but it needed a little something to stand out on that big, white wall.

Festive holiday decor with a white-painted tree, ornaments, pinecones, and greenery, featuring a blackboard sign with "Peace on Earth" in elegant script, perfect for Christmas celebrations.

Decorative holiday branches with ornaments and faux foliage for Christmas home decor, rustic seasonal decoration, decorative garland display, festive indoor holiday styling, Christmas mantel decor.

Couch and Coffee Table

Festive Christmas living room decor with holiday-themed pillows, pinecone accents, greenery, and a "Peace on Earth" sign for cozy holiday home inspiration.

The pillows on the Albany Park sectional are a mix of everyday pillows and some velvety-Christmas pillows.

The centerpiece for the coffee table is a new craft this year!

Colorful cone-shaped Christmas decorations with star anise toppers in a festive greenery arrangement.

I used gorgeous velvet ribbons to make cone Christmas trees in those warm, earthy colors. They are topped with real Star Anise, to add a fresh, organic touch. The smell reminds me of the anisette cookies that my Nana used to make!

This is a simple craft that ties in with the cozy feel of the room.

Sitting Area

This is the view from the couch. When the leaves fall off the trees, we have a gorgeous view of the mountain ridge behind us.

Cozy living room decor with large window, beige armchairs, holiday decorations, and Christmas tree for festive home interior.

I also included a rosemary tree for the living room from Trader Joe’s! I thought that was a perfect addition for organic Christmas decor, right next to our diffuser with our Christmas-y Plant Therapy Candy Cane and Christmas Tree essential oils, along with a scented candle.

Brightly lit windowsill with potted rosemary plant wrapped in decorative paper, a white diffuser, a scented candle, and small essential oil bottles; cozy, calming home decor.

(Sorry about the weird coloring! It’s so hard to get the lighting right when taking pictures next to a window!🤪). Below you can see how pretty it is, a little better:

Diffuser, potted plant, and candle on wooden surface by window with trees, cozy indoor decor, relaxing ambiance, nature-inspired, home decor, aromatherapy essentials, mindfulness space.

Decorated Christmas tree with warm lights and ornaments in cozy living room setting.

I added some very small mini-wreaths to the window, hung with crushed velvet ribbon (which I used EVERYWHERE this season) and small brown velvet bows. I kept them small so it wouldn’t block the view.

Festive holiday decorations hanging on a large window with a cozy, decorated Christmas tree in the background, creating a warm, inviting holiday atmosphere.

Festively decorated Christmas tree with ornaments and wrapped gifts in a cozy living room with large window and armchair.

I also used these mini wreaths on the deck doors, adjacent to the picture window. These were a quick upcycle of an old wreath, with added pine cones and velvet ribbon.

Handmade Christmas wreath hanging inside, decorated with pinecones and greenery, on a window with blurred outdoor background.

A cozy barrel chair with a blanket, next to the tree, is perfect for me to read while my husband and sons watch football.

TV Wall

The TV on top of our sideboard doesn’t leave a lot of room for decorating this wall. But adding a cozy YouTube Christmas video  is instant holiday aesthetic!

That’s another decorating hack – & it’s free! Plus, it plays Christmas music, too! Double win! Just search ‘Christmas TV art’.

Ornament-filled Christmas tree with warm white lights on a holiday living room setup.

I hung more of that gorgeous crushed velvet ribbon on the sconces (with these lampshades).

Elegant wall-mounted lamp with floral-patterned lampshade and ribbon accent, perfect for cozy home decor and lighting inspiration.

Below the sconces are mini trees I placed on top of juniper placemats to anchor them.

Dining Table

Ok, I get really indecisive about dining tables! I’m going to show you a few ways I put my dining table together.

This year, I didn’t create a table with place settings. That usually comes together a little closer to the holiday, so what you’ll see just has a centerpiece and minimal tablescape options.

I usually go this route because our dining table gets a lot of use, and it’s just not really practical for us to have it decorated with a lot, all season long.

Centerpiece

I created a DIY centerpiece similar to the one I made to for the fall. I placed pine cones, orange slices, and a few cinnamon sticks and faux berries to a hurricane vase with a candle.  It’s perfect for an organic, nature-inspired table.

Festive holiday centerpiece with pinecones, dried orange slices, greenery, and candle in a glass holder, perfect for Christmas or winter decor.

Plaid Tablecloth

Version 1 has the vinyl plaid tablecloth I used for my Thanksgiving table! The colors really work well for an earthy Christmas color palette also.

Bonus! An earthy Christmas color theme transitions very nicely from fall! If you went this route, you could easily decorate for fall and use many of the same colors for Christmas! This is a time-saving idea if you are short on time.

Using a vinyl tablecloth is also practical if you have little ones and are constantly wiping up messes on the table.

Another life-simplifying tip if you want to create a pretty but functional table is to use placemats underneath your centerpiece as opposed to a table runner.

My sons get my runners so dirty🤪, so I don’t really like to keep them out for everyday use. Placemats can anchor those centerpieces, so they don’t look like they were just thrown on a table.

Festive holiday holiday candle centerpiece with red berries and pine branches for Christmas decorations.

A cozy dining table decorated for a holiday or special occasion with candles, greenery, and natural accents, perfect for festive gatherings or family celebrations.

You can also place a centerpiece in a tray with some other Christmas decor rather than create a full tablescape – and it will look just as pretty.

Earthy Brown Tablecloth

Here’s version 2 of the table.

Here I used an amber bronze tablecloth with my favorite table runner (I use this one pretty much every season).

Festive holiday dining table with candles, greenery, and rustic decor, perfect for a Christmas or winter celebration.

To fancy it up, I included dried orange slices and pine cones down the center – but it’s still pretty simple.
Layered centerpiece with pinecones, dried citrus slices, and greenery on a rust-colored tablecloth, ideal for festive holiday or winter celebrations.

Festive holiday table setting with pinecones, greenery, candles, and dried orange slices, perfect for Christmas dinner or seasonal gatherings.

This ties in really nicely with an earthy, organic Christmas – but my sons said it didn’t feel very Christmas-y. So I tried another version, if you’re feeling the same!

Dark Green Tablecloth

Here’s a more traditional Version 3:

Festive holiday dining room decorated for Christmas with a long table, green tablecloth, garland, and ornaments, featuring cozy and elegant holiday home decor for family gatherings.

It definitely has a more traditional Christmas feel to it and still ties in nicely with organic, nature-inspired Christmas decor.

Rustic holiday centerpiece with pinecones, dried orange slices, and a large candle in a glass holder, perfect for winter decor and festive table settings.

Pinecone centerpiece with candles, dried citrus slices, cinnamon sticks, and greenery for rustic cozy decor.

And whichever tablecloth is used, these mini-swags on the back of the chairs tie in perfectly.  These swags were much less expensive than getting wreaths for every chair – and I love how it turned out.

Delightful holiday table decor with white wooden chairs decorated with fresh greenery and pinecones, perfect for winter gatherings or Christmas celebrations.

Festive dining room with a long table decorated with holiday greenery and a burnt orange tablecloth, surrounded by white chairs, with natural light from large windows and cozy curtains.

Window Treatment

This year, I really wanted to make a paper chain and paper stars (I followed this quick 30 second tutorial – it was so easy!). I felt like this window was the spot for it!

Festive holiday table setting with pinecones, greenery, candles, and dried orange slices, perfect for Christmas dinner or seasonal gatherings. Colorful origami star and moon decorations hanging in front of a window with sheer curtains, creating a cozy and festive atmosphere for holiday or special occasion celebrations.

Decorative paper stars hanging from a curtain rod with sheer curtains, creating a whimsical and cozy home decor aesthetic.

Colorful paper star ornaments hanging by a window for festive holiday decor, creating a cozy and charming atmosphere.

Coffee Bar

This is a tight area behind the dining table that gets bumped into a lot! So, I kept it pretty simple and just added a touch of Christmas decor.

Decorative kitchen coffee nook with Christmas-inspired teapots, jar, and coffee maker.

Assorted peppermint candy canes in a decorative teapot on a holiday-themed cloth with Christmas trees.

I also updated this cute kraft paper little tree with more of that beautiful ribbon!

Miniature potted eucalyptus plant with brown paper wrapping and a cream ribbon, perfect for holiday decor and gift-giving, showcased against a neutral background.

Kitchen

This is my first time decorating this kitchen. We had a reno-gone-wrong last year, and it was only partially finished last Christmas. Here’s our very busy, full-functioning kitchen😂:

Bright and modern kitchen with natural wood cabinetry, white marble countertops, stainless steel appliances, and cozy decor, perfect for home cooking and family gatherings.

Here’s the layout looking in from the den:

Cozy farmhouse kitchen with natural wood cabinets, white marble island, and festive green wreaths on chairs, ideal for holiday gatherings and homey decor.

Peninsula

I put together this centerpiece for our peninsula with fresh floral greens and a few other pieces I already had.

Fresh greenery centerpiece arranged on a wooden tray with candles and decorative vases for cozy, rustic home decor.

I forgot about some bells I had, so I switched up a little later!

Rustic fall centerpiece with candles, greenery, and pinecones on vintage book for cozy autumn home decor, perfect for Thanksgiving or seasonal gatherings.

Front and center is a DIY cinnamon candle I made a few years ago for Christmas, that ties in perfectly with my theme this year.

Vase with greenery and white flowers on a round wooden tray with candles, surrounded by decorative elements, perfect for rustic home decor and natural-inspired table settings.

The chairs on the other side of the peninsula have the same mini-swags as the dining room chairs.

Wooden chair decorated with a festive greenery garland for holiday home decor.

Rustic holiday decor with greenery and pinecone embellishments on wooden chair backs for festive Christmas celebrations.

Floating Shelves

Working our way around the room to the floating shelves on the left, above the peninsula!

I kept out a lot of my typical decor, but just added a few Christmas touches: floral arrangements, a sign, and a Christmas plate. The copper and wood tones harmonize perfectly with an earthy Christmas color palette.

Decorative kitchen shelf with jars, bowls, and greenery for home organization and cozy aesthetic in rustic style.

Rustic wooden shelves with holiday decor, greenery, and festive kitchenware, perfect for Christmas home decor and seasonal decorating ideas for a cozy, festive ambiance.

Festive holiday flower arrangement with greenery and ornaments, featuring a "merry" sign for Christmas decoration and home decor ideas.

And for the rest, velvet ribbons fix almost everything!

Elegant rose gold mug resting on a black wire basket with a patterned headband draped over the edge, showcasing trendy home decor and accessories.

Hammered copper pitcher, vintage style home decor, kitchen or living room accessory, handcrafted metalware, unique household item for rustic or modern interior design.

Rustic wooden cutting board with green ribbon bow, natural home decor, cozy farmhouse style, handcrafted kitchen accessory, A Hundred Affections product shot.

Window and Sink Area

Bright kitchen window with potted plants, decorative vases, and cozy decor, featuring a black window frame, natural wood accents, and a view of trees outside.

I dressed up the window a little bit with a mini wreath and ribbon, along with a hammered copper mug and baby’s breath and other small Christmas decor items.

Copper mug with white flowers and decorative house-shaped ornaments on window sill, cozy holiday decor in a bright home, perfect for Christmas interior styling.

Shiny copper hammered mug with gold heart-shaped handle filled with white baby's breath flowers on a windowsill, cozy home decor.

Behind the sink, I made a fresh floral arrangement with the rest of the greens. It’s not overtly Christmas-y, but I love the fresh, organic feeling it gives.

The brown-ish gold backside of the magnolia leaves tie in perfectly with the earthy Christmas vibe. I feel like I’m in a greenhouse when I’m standing at my sink.🤣

Lush houseplant arrangement in a white and terracotta vase on a kitchen countertop near a window for a cozy, natural home decor aesthetic.

I also picked up this herb garden and just added a bow, which I thought works wonderfully for organic Christmas decor, too!

Fresh potted herbs including thyme, rosemary, and mint in a pink container with a cream ribbon decoration, set on a white countertop near a window.

Cozy kitchen window with decorative plants and holiday wreath, black sink faucet, holiday decor, white countertop, and natural light, creating a warm and inviting kitchen ambiance.

And here’s what it looks like at night (with our deck Christmas light out behind it!):

Rustic black-framed kitchen window with holiday wreath, potted herbs and greenery, cozy decor, and warm lighting for seasonal home ambiance.

Plate Rack

Spice jar shelf with herbs and kitchen decor, wooden spice jars, holiday wreath, and vintage inspired kitchen signs, cozy rustic home decor.

This plate rack (originally white wood!) is a new decorating spot for me!

I styled the shelves for Christmas with some everyday decor as well as seasonal decor, including a thrifted plate and cookbook!

A festive wooden tray displaying a peace-themed plate and a kitchen cookbook with dried flowers and a small pine tree, perfect for holiday home decor.

Fresh picked mistletoe sign in rustic wood frame for holiday decor, Christmas seasonal decoration, festive greenery, and romantic holiday ambiance.

Festive greenery with a rustic wooden ring wreath hanging on a shelf during the holiday season.

On the metal rack below, I added cutting boards and Christmas cookie cutters hung with velvet ribbon. I used Christmas towels I already had – the tartan plaid is my nod to the trending Ralph Lauren Christmas this year.😂

Festive holiday kitchen decor with wooden and metal Christmas cookie cutters, plaid and striped dish towels, showcasing holiday baking essentials.

Rustic wooden shelf with holiday decor, kitchen accessories, and greenery.

I have a feeling this is going to be a fun area to style every year.

Mantel

I think this might be my favorite mantel so far.

Festive holiday mantel decorated with greenery, dried orange slices, candles, framed quote, gold star ornaments, and small decorative trees in a cozy Christmas setting.

The stockings in the browns and creams set just the right vibe on one side, with bells on the other. I know this was popular a few years ago, but I still like hanging my garland (several pieces layered) asymmetrically!

I added silk velvet vintage ribbon in cinnamon, gold, and brown on both sides.

Cozy Christmas stockings hanging on a mantel with festive greenery and decorations, perfect for holiday home decor and seasonal cheer.

Vintage gold jingle bells hanging from a rustic holiday garland with pine needles and small pinecones, perfect for Christmas decor enhancement.

I also added dried oranges to the garland with floral wire to keep that cohesive organic feeling.

Cozy Christmas stockings hanging on a fireplace decorated with festive greenery, pinecones, dried orange slices, and gold accents, perfect for holiday home decor.

Dried orange slices and evergreen garland decorating a rustic fireplace mantel for Christmas.

On the mantel shelf, I put faux winter greens in a thrifted pitcher that I repurposed with baking soda and paint.

Festive holiday arrangement with a creamy textured vase, greenery, and a vintage-style "Merry Christmas" sign on a gold stand. Perfect for Christmas home decor and seasonal decorations.

More of my favorite velvet ribbon, of course!

On the mantel sign, I put a DIY wreath I made using a method I learned from Julie Blanner. It’s made from fresh greens, grouped in bundles of 3 stems, attached with floral wire.

Lush greenery and delicate foliage arranged on a white marble surface, showcasing natural and botanical decorations for home or event styling.

I absolutely LOVE the fresh, organic feel. I’m not sure how long it will last, but I love, love, love it.

Lush holiday greenery wreath with variegated leaves and small berries, framed with white, hanging above a decorative sign with inspiring message, on rustic wooden mantel.

Right above it, I added paper stars (originally silver, spray-painted gold).

Decorative gold paper star ornaments hanging above a round mirror in a cozy, festive indoor setting.

On the far end is a repurposed cider jug with faux greens and more velvet ribbon.

Pine branch in a glass vase with a ribbon, rustic holiday decor, Christmas table centerpiece, winter holiday design, seasonal decorations for festive home aesthetic.

The built-ins hold various pieces of Christmas decor as well as some books – antique and some favorites including my favorite Liz Marie Galvin book to add a ‘real-life’ touch.

Mini Christmas trees in gold pots on upper wooden shelf, vintage books and an open holiday-themed book on middle shelf, decorative jar with fairy lights and festive ornaments on lower shelf.

Festive holiday decoration display with candles, pine branches, and holiday-themed accents on wooden shelves.

Golden reindeer and holiday décor Christmas figurine, festive holiday home decoration, seasonal Christmas décor, decorative winter holiday ornament, holiday table centerpiece.

White and gold Christmas candles with festive greenery and berries, rustic wooden bases, perfect for holiday home decor and creating a cozy seasonal atmosphere.

I kept the hearth pretty simple with just 2 reindeer and a blanket basket, since the top had a lot going on already!

And here’s the mantel and the built-ins all together:
