Cozy Winter Crafts for a Girls Night In

As someone who loves a good creative project, I recently hosted my first official craft night with the girls in my small group. I’d been wanting to invite them over for ages, but I’m always a little worried about those awkward quiet moments.

A hands-on activity felt like the perfect icebreaker, so a craft night it was!

We kept things super relaxed—just a table full of supplies and a mix of easy projects like bookmarks, fridge magnets, and whatever else our imaginations came up with.

It ended up being such a sweet, low-pressure night that I’m kinda hooked on craft nights for every season.

Today, I’ve got ideas for winter crafts for a ladies’ night in.

Helpful Tips for Hosting a Group Craft Night

Crafting with a whole group is its own fun adventure—definitely different from working on a project solo. Adults crafting together can be a whole different dynamic!😂

If you’re thinking of hosting a winter craft night at home or helping plan one for your church or small group, here are a few things that make the experience smoother and more enjoyable:

1 | Keep supplies + budget in mind

Since multiple ladies will be participating, choose a project that uses affordable materials you can snag in bulk. Decide ahead of time whether guests need to bring anything and if there’s a small fee to help cover supplies.

2 | Pick an easy, no-stress project

Craft night is really about conversation, community, and a cozy night together among friends. The craft is just the excuse to gather!

Choose projects that are simple, low-mess, and don’t require specialized skills or equipment. Think easy steps and minimal waiting time—no crowding around a single glue gun.

I like to choose crafts that are kind of ‘mindless’ – if that makes sense – so you can chat without needing to think too much about what your hands are doing.

3 | Offer a couple of project options

Two or so choices give your guests freedom without overwhelming them. Bonus points if the supplies overlap so the prep stays simple.

For my last craft night, I set out paint pens, scrapbook paper, stickers, stamps, and decoupage supplies. Those basics worked for bookmarks, magnets, gift tags, mini cards, and more.

A small assortment of winter-themed supplies can easily turn into luminaries, snowflake art, tags, or cozy paper crafts.

4 | Prep what you can in advance

If your craft involves several pieces, consider bundling materials into mini kits or baskets. Label anything that might need explanation or include an easy instruction card. Avoid projects that require lots of prep unless you truly enjoy that part.

5 | Make at least one sample

Having a finished example helps everyone know what they’re aiming for. Creating your sample beforehand also lets you troubleshoot the tricky steps so you can offer tips as you go.

6 | Keep the atmosphere warm + fun

A craft night doesn’t need to look Pinterest-perfect. The best part is being together.

Chat, laugh at your Pinterest-fails, and set out a few snacks (or make it a simple potluck). Keep the mood relaxed and festive so everyone feels at ease.

The important thing is that you’re passing a chilly winter night together in a cozy space for creativity and friendship.
