If you’re coming by from the Blogger’s Best Holiday Home Tour, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! If you found your way here via a pin or an email, I’m equally grateful you’re here, too! Today I’m sharing how I decorated my home for Christmas using a white, gold, and green color palette! Keep reading for some useful ideas – and don’t forget to read to the end where you can click to all the other amazing homes on the tour!
Real Life, Even During the Holidays
I feel like I need to start this post with full disclosure.
I was totally over the moon to be a part of the blogger Christmas Home Tour this year. These are some of my favorite home decor bloggers, many of whom I’ve followed for years.
However.
I was really nervous about pulling this off. For a few reasons.
Being paired up with some amazing home decor bloggers can be intimidating! Let’s just say I went through my own round of insecurities and comparisons.
Second, we have had home renovations going on – specifically, our kitchen and den – since May. MAY!
And as of this moment, they are STILL not finished. While it looks like (fingers crossed!) we should be done before Thanksgiving, we were in the thick of dust and debris when I needed to decorate for Christmas.
Because of that, I had limited areas I was able to decorate and share with you. And, the space isn’t what I’d call ‘ideal’ for decorating.
A few things are in limbo in between projects, our house isn’t set up the way it usually is, furniture is in random places, and I’ve just had to do the best with what I have.
Throw into the mix that we homeschool my 9-year-old twin boys… and I probably don’t need to do any more explaining than that!
On the other hand, maybe you can relate?
If you’re in the same boat as I am – in less-than-ideal circumstances for holiday decorating (or for the holidays in general), whatever those circumstances may be – I hope this encourages you that real life happens to all of us.
Sometimes, the best we can do is just work with what we have and maintain our joy. And I will say, maintaining my joy through this has been a challenge.
But my sons have reminded me many times that we already have what’s most important, Christmas is about Jesus not stuff, and that I need to be grateful (don’t you love when your kids repeat your words back to you?!?!).
So – that’s where I’ve landed: I’m embracing what I have going on in real life, I’m grateful for all the blessings God has provided – and that we even are able to do some home renovations at all.
And I’m grateful to share it all with you, imperfect as it might be!
Hopefully, I can share some helpful tips, especially if you’re living in some level of chaos, too.
White, Gold, and Green Themed Christmas Home Tour

As I was pulling ideas together for how I wanted to decorate this year, I really felt drawn to a white, gold, and green color palette.
I’m not against red – in fact, last year, I included lots of red in my home with a very strong berry game going on. And I loved it.
And there have been years when I did a more neutral color palette, and I really loved that, too.
The beauty is that you’re never locked in year after year.
While my colors are predominantly white, gold, and green this year, there is a pop of red here and there. And there’s quite a bit of black included as a secondary color for some contrast.
This season, it was so tempting to see something in the store and fall in love, but when I thought about my decorating plan, it didn’t really go with the colors or aesthetic or theme.
When decorating, it’s always a goal (and a challenge!) to stick with the color palette or aesthetic I’m going for.
Pro Tip:
Before buying anything, think about how and where you could use this piece of decor BEFORE you buy. Make sure it aligns with your color palette and aesthetic for that season.
I’ve also embraced more a minimalist aesthetic in some spaces, too. We are living in quite a bit of chaos, so I’ve adapted to simpler decor in some areas because things are changing daily around here!
So let’s take a walk through.
Front Porch
In years past, I’ve really had a lot going on my small porch – a forest of winter trees, a full-size decorated Christmas tree, lots of big and small pieces of Christmas decor.
This year, because of what we had going on inside our home, I just wanted to keep things streamlined and simple.
On the door is a DIY wreath I put together this year.
I could not find a wreath I really loved, but remembered I had an inspiration pic on my phone.
So I repurposed an old wreath to create this one, and I really, really love it.
To the right of the door is an Adirondack rocker that is a permanent fixture. It takes up a lot of real estate, which keeps decorating simple. I usually just add a seasonal blanket and pillow. This year, I added a cozy green blanket from Walmart’s Better Homes and Gardens collection and a DIY buffalo check pillow I made from a placemat! Above it is one of my favorite ‘Merry Christmas’ signs from Hobby Lobby, which ties in nicely with the ticking stripe bows!
I also keep that vintage window on the wall for each season. Usually, I put a wreath or set of wreaths on there.
This year, I created something different – a DIY Christmas swag with black bells from Walmart and green stems I already had. Another easy DIY that coordinated with the wreath and the rest of the porch.
In front are lanterns that I keep out yearly, as well as an oversized vase with greens as well as a bucket of birch logs. The Christmas floral arrangement on the other side is one I bought at Home Goods. I rarely buy premade arrangements, but I really loved the white planter and caved on that one.
There’s a storage bench to the left where I just added a plaid blanket and Christmas pillow.
From the street, the dark colors sometimes get lost on the porch. The red catches the eye just a little more. Porch Pro Tip:
Use staple items each season to keep decorating streamlined and simple. Add in a few seasonal decor accents.
Use pops of color for more visibility from the street.
Entry Way to the Living Room
As you enter my house, the den and kitchen are to the left, the hallway with the bedrooms to the right, and the living room is straight ahead.
With our kitchen renovation, we lost both the den and kitchen as far as use (and decorating) goes.
My primary focus will be on the living room and the dining area.
In the living room, we will be mounting the TV on the wall and redoing the furniture and decor surrounding it, so this year, it’s a little ‘thrown together’ while we are in the process of all that, but we are pushing on to create cozy vibes for the season, nevertheless!
Christmas Tree
My tree this year is very similar to my tree last year (we have another tree in the den with the family ornaments, that the kids get to decorate).
The only real change this year is that I added these gorgeous gold ribbons from Target (I have used them everywhere this year, as you’ll see!) and these little gold birds.
Additionally, you can see the white and gold theme with gold bead garland, a white and gold ornament set (I got mine on clearance a few years ago, but this is a very similar set!), and clip-on candles.
I used about 15 candles on my tree, for reference. This tree is a pre-lit and a literally flops open and is all set. No fluffing.
It is pure magic, and I’ll never go back!
I bought my tree last year, but this is a very similar tree!
Pro Tip:
Decorate the tree with the lights off! You’ll be able to better see the decorations and how they need to be spaced and what needs to be added!
Here’s my tree without the lights. The decor really stands out and helps you know what to fix!
Double Floating Shelves
I’ve had these shelves for about 5 years, but once we mount the TV (which is too big for that console – and for my living room, by the way, but my husband won that battle!), those shelves will come down.
I debated taking them down before decorating, but even though they are a little hidden by the tree, they add warmth and coziness to the wall. On these shelves, I kept things simple by repurposing some decorations I already had.
I painted the nativity scene gold and the reindeer black.
The black sign is a printable I designed (that frame allows me to easily slip new designs in and out!), and the candlesticks are a seasonal favorite from Hearth and Hand. You can see another appearance of that gold bow!
Pro Tip for Shelves:
Stick to the rule of 3 (or odd numbers). Balance by color and size!
TV Wall
As I said, I kind of kept things simple since we are working with what’s going on in our house, and it’s all going to be changed up after the holidays.
I added some simple decorations to the bottom of the (too small for that TV) entertainment unit.
The gold candle holders appear on both sides, each surrounded by a mini wreath. Underneath each is a small vignette placed on top of a book (the antique book is one on social etiquette from the 1800s!).
Inside, I just added a little bit of color with Christmas decor. Those doors are closed, and you can’t really see inside, so I didn’t invest too much time in it!
Next to the entertainment center is a small set of drawers that is probably 20 years old. It usually lives in the den, but it lives here now while the den is being updated.
On top is a simple mini wreath with a large hurricane vase (from Dollar Tree) inside. I filled the vase with some sparkly gold leaf pre-lit garland from My Texas House collection at Walmart.
I literally threw 2 strands inside, and I felt like it was a simple and pretty effect!
The space above is getting redone also, so this year, so I hung a simple wreath I bought at Target a few years ago, with the pretty gold bow! Here’s the entire wall in one view: Pro Tip: It’s totally OK to go light on some areas, especially that won’t get seen! No one will know – or even notice – usually, won’t even care. We notice things way more than our guests – don’t stress it! You have permission to take short cuts!
Coffee Table
I’ve learned over the years to keep things simple around the coffee table. My husband and sons like to gather around it to eat and watch TV, so it gets a lot of use.
For that reason, I DIYed a large wood tray to serve as a base. Our ottoman is our ‘coffee table’ so I wanted a firm surface for drinks. I also created a winter vignette of gold, green, and white trees in an upcycled tray as the centerpiece. Since we sit here and watch TV a lot, I needed a centerpiece with a low profile that we didn’t need to move every time we watched TV. This has worked out wonderfully!
The gold trees are from Target’s Wondershop line, the green tree is from Hobby Lobby (as is the gold and green garland). The little white trees are from a purchase last year.
I also purchased a large bag of Christmas potpourri from Hobby Lobby to fill in the gaps – which smells amazing!
Pro Tip:
Decorate your coffee table in way that leaves it functional for the whole season!
Long Wall Shelf
This is a shelf right above our sectional, which I built before we actually had a mantel over the fireplace to decorate.
I usually treat it like a mantel when I decorate: statement piece in the middle, height on the ends, layers in between.
In the middle is a minimalist Christmas sign I purchased at Kirklands a few years ago.
On the right end is a large apple cider jar I repurposed and filled with green floral stems.
On the left end is actually a centerpiece from my wedding! It’s a manzanita branch in a jar with sand from our favorite beach on Long Island (which is where we are from, before moving to Tennessee).
I love that it’s a very personal and meaningful piece of decor I can incorporate every season. Along with the faux rhinestone garland, I added these gorgeous iridescent ornaments that were only $1 from the Target dollar spot. The sparkle is magical to me!
The layering in between on the rest of the shelf included a gold reindeer from At Home on a stack of vintage books, a gold starburst from the Wondershop Collection at Target, and two gold candlesticks.
I added in garland for layering, and a row of votive candles.
To carry on the gold theme, I added the bows to the 2 pieces on the end, and I really love how it all came together. Pro Tip: Include meaningful and sentimental decorations to your space to keep things personal and cozy.
Book Case
This is mostly a functional bookcase with our random assortment of books, but I added just a little bit of Christmas decor here.
On the wall is a DIY frame where I can change out the print. The ‘O Come Let Us Adore Him’ is also another one that I designed and had printed in poster size. It’s in the free subscriber library, so be sure to sign up to grab it!
Below the sign is a thrift store upcycled pitcher filled with winter greens. On the sides are two shepherd’s hooks that I got at Target dollar spot a few years ago (& had no idea of what I’d do with them! ).
They were chipping pretty badly, so I spray-painted them with a brass finish paint and hung these vintage stamp ornaments from the Hearth and Hand collection. I love their old-fashioned vibes!
Pro-Tip:
Mix in some vintage-feel pieces for a cozy, nostalgic Christmas vibe! That can also include thrift store finds!
Here is a look at the full living room, before we step to the dining area.
Dining Area
So our dining table is at the back of our living room. This is usually a messy, functional table (homeschool life!) – but each season, I try to clear it off for a few weeks to create a seasonal tablescape.
Here’s how I created my table this year:
For the ‘runner’ – I layered 3 different garlands: a traditional faux cedar garland, a lush garland with greens including eucalyptus, and a green-gold garland with pine cones.
Essentially, I ‘braided’ them to create a full look.
For the centerpiece, I used another gold starburst in the middle of 2 hurricane vases with cream-colored pillar candles.
Similarly to the coffee table, I like centerpieces with low profiles, so they do not get in the way of guests chatting across the table!
Strewn up and down the table are a mix of black and brass candle sticks, with gold and green candles, alternating.
The tree-shaped taper candles were from Target’s dollar spot, and I thought they were a really festive choice for candles. They are more whimsical than I would normally choose, but it’s an understated whimsy, so they were allowed through!
For the table settings, I layered jute placemats (which I use for just about every season), a faux cedar charger, a white plate (everyday dishes), a neutral Christmas napkin I got years ago at Hobby Lobby, and a winter tree salad plate (from Dollar Tree!).
The gold cutlery is actually plastic, but I really love how it looks on this tablescape.
On the deck doors are 2 wreaths that came with gold bows from Joann’s. Pro Tip:
Save money by using evergreen table decor and adding in some holiday accents.
Layer and ‘braid’ multiple pieces and kinds of garland for a thicker, more lush look.
Drink Stations
On both sides of the picture window, I have 2 drink stations. One is water, one is for coffee.
Water Station
At the water station, I added cranberries and limes to the water for flavor and for a festive touch.
Next to the flavored water jar are gold-flecked plastic cups from Home Goods as well as a pitcher of plain water (pitcher from Hobby Lobby).
I also included some delicious Harry and David wafer cookies as a snack option, which were purchased from Home Goods also (I saw them at TJ Maxx as well!).
Coffee Bar
For the coffee bar, I added some pretty gold Christmas tree mugs (thrift store find!) to a wood and brass Hearth and Hand coffee mug tree.
That Keurig K-Mini single serve coffeemaker is a perfect choice if you have a small space for a coffee bar, like I do!
On the tiered tray (which I believe was a Target dollar spot find from a few years ago), is peppermint coffee stirrers (Home Goods), biscotti for dipping (Trader Joe’s), Christmas candy, along with sugar, creamer, cinnamon, and ginger.
I also included disposable Christmas to-go coffee cups as well and gold metal coffee spoon stirrers as well. Pro Tip:
Think through what guest will need at drink stations and decorate accordingly! Function is just as important as aesthetic.
This is the view from the dining table with the drink stations:
Christmas Home Tour (Mostly) Complete
So that’s a wrap for me! As I mentioned, our other rooms are under ‘caution tape’ right now, but I’ll update once things are back in order.
I hope you found some helpful ideas and tips -and some encouragement that your home doesn’t have to be picture perfect to decorate – or enjoy the season!
These things should only enhance our enjoyment of what means most – the Greatest Gift we’ve ever been given in the coming of Jesus.
