The Uphill Battle of Selflessness at Christmas

Like many people, Christmas is one of my favorite seasons. And my kids’, too. But the heavy marketing campaign for commercialism can make our kids believe it is all about them.

But if Christmas shows us anything, it’s what sacrificial love looks like: Jesus, God in the flesh, coming to earth to save a lost and corrupt humanity. At enormous cost to Himself.

One of the best ways we can serve our kids is to teach them to serve others. So this Christmas, what about being more intentional about that?

That’s exactly what this Christmas Acts of Kindness Countdown is meant to help us do: a simple, faith-filled way for your family to celebrate the season by serving others and reflecting on the true meaning of Jesus’ birth.

This may contain: christmas themed printables with the words acts of kindness, christmas countdown and 12 days of

Christmas Acts of Kindness Printable Set

This printable set is designed to help you focus your family on Jesus and on others (anyone but themselves!) this Christmas through acts of kindness. This set is fully customizable to your family’s rhythm. You can choose a:

  1. 24-Day Countdown (December 1–24)
  2. 12 Days of Christmas (any time in December)- a shorter, flexible option, perfect for busy families or if you start a little later in the season.

Here’s what’s included in this printable set:

  • Page 1: Done-for-You 24 Day Calendar – prefilled with activities and numbers

Festive holiday activity ideas for giving, volunteering, and spreading kindness during Christmas season on a Christmas activity calendar.

  • Page 2: Numbered Calendar – you choose & fill in the activities for all 24 days. This is something fun you can decide on together, to get the kids involved.
  • Page 3: Activity Calendar – you fill in the days you want to do each activity. This allows you to schedule particular activities on the days that work best for you.

Both of those options can work for 12 days, too! You can cut those pages down to just 12 squares of your choosing.

  • Page 4: Build-Your-Own 12 Days of Christmas – fill in the 12 activities you want to do

  • Page 5: Bonus Page – Bible Readings Christmas countdown

Ideas for Displaying Your Countdown

Here are a few fun ways to use your printable cards:

  • Cut cards and:
      • hang each day’s card on a mini-Christmas tree or garland.
      • slip them into numbered envelopes and open one together each night.
      • place them in a basket and draw one at random each morning.
      • use clothespins to clip them to a ribbon or twine
      • Create your own DIY advent calendar holder
  • Keep it simple: print out the pages and hang on the fridge or bulletin board!

Some of these activities take pre-planning –  I suggest setting it up in advance of December so things happen more fluidly.

And of course, you’re welcome to add in some of your own ideas. A few suggestions that didn’t make the list:

  • Leave quarters at the laundromat
  • Support a small business
  • Leave out water and food for the birds

Our homes truly set the tone for the season. When we choose kindness, gratitude, and service, we’re teaching our children that Christmas isn’t just about receiving — it’s about giving to others because we’ve so generously given to.

This printable set can help you keep Christ at the center of your Christmas traditions  – and maybe even start a new yearly tradition!
