Christian Easter Tablescape + DIY He is Risen Centerpiece
This year I’m all about decorating for Easter with a Christ-centered focus, and that includes my table, too. If that’s you also, I hope you’ll come along as I share simple & budget-friendly ideas for table decor that shows the true meaning of Easter!
Easter Table Ideas with a Focus on Christ
If you happened to have read any of my more recent posts, I’ve been sharing how I’ve felt compelled to focus on having more of Christ in my home decor.
He’s always been a focus in my home and in my family, but I’ve been convicted that even the decor should share Who He is with anyone who enters my house.
Easter was really the perfect time to put this into action, as this season is the pinnacle celebration for Christians. Without the resurrection, our faith is in vain.
And while I have nothing against sweet bunnies, Easter eggs, or cute little chicks, this year, I just wanted the decor to be about Christ.
I shared a whole post with how I decorated my house for Easter with Christ-centered decorations, but today I want to share how I did that with my Easter table. There’s also a DIY Christian Easter centerpiece project that I wanted to share with you also.

I’m usually a trial-and-error kind of girl when it comes to decorating. I like to try lots of things. Usually, in the end, I have a hard time deciding, so I end up sharing them all.
Today is no different, lol.
This year, I wanted the table to be especially functional as well as pretty, so I decided to skip the table runner and garland, which I usually love on table.
Food needs precious real estate on an Easter table, so I tried to minimize decorations that would take up too much space.
I also kept the decor low profile, so that you can leave a lot of it out on the table while you eat, without it getting in the way of conversations.
The decor itself serves as something of a ‘table runner’ as it runs the length of the table, but there is space in between for food, etc.
Christian Easter Centerpieces
Let me first share what I did with the centerpieces, then I’ll show the table settings.
DIY Centerpiece with Mini Crates & Bud Vases
For the main centerpiece, I created this low-profile wood box holder for bud vases. Bud vases are some of my favorite pieces of decor, and I knew early on I wanted to spotlight them on the table.
A row of bud vases strewn down the table or a cluster of bud vases on a tray or wrapped with ribbon both look gorgeous. However, I wanted the centerpiece to focus on Jesus, so I need an area to put a Christian Easter message.
I’ve created a similar centerpiece to this one using just one mini-crate, but I wanted something a little more prominent for an Easter table (plus, I wanted the message to stand out, too).
This version of a mini-crate centerpiece is 3 crates hot-glued together, and decoupaged with floral napkins from Home Goods.
Then, I created a simple document on Canva that says, ‘He is not here. He has risen, just as He said‘ and attached it to the crate box.
At the end of the post, I’ll share the directions for this craft.
Tulip Bouquet and Tags Centerpieces
The table felt a little bland with just the one centerpiece, so I decided to add bouquets of fresh tulips in mason jars.
On their own, they are gorgeous, but I still wanted to see where I could honor Jesus in our decor.
I decided to add these printable tags that I created last year to the jars, wrapped with raffia ribbon, and I just love them. You can grab those tags at the very end of the post if you want to use them as well!
(This post here has all the particulars about best practices for using them as tags, stickers, label size, etc.)
I also picked up these sweet flower themed votives at Hobby Lobby, and they add the perfect touch (in my opinion).
Christ-Centered Easter Place Settings
I came up with a few different versions of this table setting, and I never landed on which I liked best. I’ll leave that for you to decide.
Informal Easter Place Settings
This is the first one I came up with, that had the He is Risen plates and napkins. You can see that the table was pretty simple (no tulip bouquets yet) and different napkins.
It was still a work in progress, but it may appeal to you if you want a simple, more minimalist Easter table.
Below, you can see it set up with the layout I used for table in most of the photos.
Around Thanksgiving last year, so many friends of mine shared their holiday tables, and just about all of them used paper plates.
That was such a relief! I always felt a little funny about sharing my tablescapes that had paper plates, but seeing that people in real life use them? The pressure was off and now I feel GREAT about sharing them.
You can also use these plates as more of a buffet style meal or as dessert plates!
(More) Formal Easter Place Settings
However, if you wanted to do a table that had more formal plates or ceramic dishes, I created one with an example of that, too.
I went with more minimalist white dishes and wildflower cloth napkins.
To keep the focus on Christ, I added an Easter cross cookie favor in sweet, dotted cellophane cookie bags with a Christ-centered sticker label (those are the same ones I used for the tulip bouquets! I get a lot of mileage out of those).
I also did a version with the cloth napkin under the plate to add a little more color to the setting. If you don’t have napkin rings, this is another pretty option.
The cutlery is reusable plastic ware from Walmart that I love for holidays as well.
I also included these adorable floral wooden Easter eggs that I picked up at Target at each place setting as well.
Here are some pictures of the entire table:
DIY He is Risen Centerpiece
OK, let me talk you through some of particulars to create the centerpiece.
Materials for Centerpiece
Mini wood crates (I used 3 from Dollar Tree)
Napkins (or tissue paper) of choice (mine were from Home Goods but these are napkins from Amazon are gorgeous!)
He is Risen Label (you can download the one I used right here)
Mod Podge |paint brushes (foam brushes work well!)
Ruler
White paint/brush (optional)
Double-sided roller tape (optional)
Instructions for DIY Christian Easter Centerpiece
1| Hot glue crates together
Using your hot glue gun, glue boxes together, end to end. Be sure the lines on the sides of the boxes line up as well as possible.
2| Paint boxes white if desired.
Depending on the type of napkin you get, you might see the surface of the crates through the napkin because they are pretty transparent.
I like to paint the boxes so white shows through rather than wood.
3|Separate the thinnest ply of napkin
When you Mod Podge napkins to any surface, you want to have it separated down to the most singular layer. Sometimes that can be hard to see.
I usually will tear the napkin at the edge – that makes separating the plies a little easier.
You want the thinnest layer because the bottom layer is what will stick to the box. If there is a layer on top of that, it could separate and later cause bubbles or wrinkles.
Below is the napkin pack I used, which I purchased at Home Goods. Amazon also has stunning vintage style type napkins similar to this in a HUGE variety of color palettes!
4| Trim napkins to a usable size and attach with Mod-Podge to crates
For this step, I like to apply Mod Podge in sections and then attach the napkin.
Be sure to line up your straightest edge of the napkin at bottom edge of the crates, if the pattern requires it. If not, apply whatever way is easiest- you can trim the edges later!
As you lay the napkin on the crate, be sure to smooth napkin down and gentle push out any bubbles or wrinkles using your finger or a dry foam brush.
Continue to do this around the entire surface of the crates.
***Pro-Tip: The busier the patterns on the napkins, the more forgiving it is of bubbles, wrinkles, and imperfections.
5|Finish the top edge of the crate
For the top of the crate, you either trim the paper, or apply Mod Podge and napkins to the top edge.
I like a more finished look, so applied the napkins to the top rims of the crates as well.
6| Trim excess paper
Once you are all done with that, you can slice off any excess paper on the top and bottom edges and in the side holes with an Exacto knife, scissor blade or knife blade.
7| Seal box with Mod Podge
Apply Mod Podge over the surface of the boxes to seal them and make them water resistant.
8| Create ‘He is Risen’ label
For this part, you’ll just need to print out the label that is attached here. If you’re creating your own, the size is roughly 10.5″ x .7″ and the font is Eyesome.
I used Japanese rice paper, which is a little more delicate and transparent than standard printer paper. But you can use what you have!
Instead of cutting, I just tore the edges for a more vintage look. To do this without cutting into the text, I held a ruler loosely at the bottom edge of the words.
Then, I gently and slowly tore the edges along the ruler to keep it somewhat straight but not perfectly straight. If you want a very straight line, just press the ruler down on the paper and tear along the side of it.
Do this on each edge of the text.
9| Attach text to centerpiece
I like to re-use my decor as much as I can, so I had in mind to use this as a spring centerpiece also, not just for Easter.
Because of that, I did not want to permanently attach it to the crates. Instead, I used double sided roller tape to attach it! Now, I can peel it off after Easter and keep it around as part of my spring decor.
***If this is something you want to create specifically as an Easter craft, you can glue it down with Mod Podge and then seal with Mod Podge on top. (You can do this step before you fully Mod Podge the entire centerpiece and just Mod Podge the outside one time to seal it all together).
However, I have not tried to Mod Podge over the rice paper, so just do a small test first to make sure the printer ink and the thinner paper holds up to the Mod Podge in a way you like before you seal it!
Here are some close-up pictures of the end result!
And here you can see the full table display!
If you’d like succinct, printable instructions for the Easter craft, you can get that below!
