The Quest for Winter-Themed Decor
This is our first ‘real’ winter in our house, as far as decor goes. We moved in last December, so when winter and January rolled around, we were still unpacking and getting settled in. I wasn’t thinking ‘winter decor’ at all.
But this year, I’m on it.
This week, the Christmas decorations are coming down and we are transitioning to winter. I hit the sales early December 26 to snag some deals on winter decor, but I was still missing something in the signage department.
Most signs are Christmas-themed – not too many winter-themed.
So, all year season long (and all year long), my motto: If you can’t find what you want (or afford what you want), then you make it. And so, here we are.

I’m not a graphic designer, but I do like clean words and phrases on a sign. That, I can do. When it came to a phrase or message, everything still seemed a bit Christmasy, and I didn’t want too much overlap.
Last year, I tinkered with the phrase, ‘Silver white winters that melt into spring’ from the song, ‘My Favorite Things’ in the Sound of Music. That was it. It was perfect.
Silver White Winters That Melt Into….
For the purists in the house, you’ll notice an error. The actual line in the song says, ‘Silver white winter that melts into springS.” Plural. Springs. But I just wasn’t a fan of it, to be honest. I looked around the internet a little, and I saw that others who have used the quote as some kind of print also left off the ‘s’ in ‘springs.’ So, I felt somewhat vindicated.
So hopefully you don’t mind a little creative license.
I played around with fonts, and per usual, being my indecisive self, I couldn’t pick just one, so here 3 different designs to choose from.
