The Multi-Functional Easter Wreath
I wasn’t always a fan of creating Easter wreaths because the season always felt so short-lived to me. However, I’ve sort of changed my tune on that.
There are lots of ways to create an Easter wreath that works for spring as well (a much longer season, right?). And a lot of times, it’s just as simple as hanging floral wreaths and then swapping or removing some Easter embellishments.
But when you think about the basics of a spring and Easter wreath, there’s a lot of overlap.
Both wreaths may use florals, greenery, bird’s nests, bird’s eggs (which often double as Easter eggs).
Bunnies can be both spring and Easter decor as well.
The only thing I’d say that maybe isn’t interchangeable would be a ‘Happy Easter’ sign somewhere on the wreath.
So if you’re going to create an Easter wreath, I definitely encourage you to think about how you can increase the lifespan of all your hard work.

Basics of Creating DIY Wreaths
Wreaths are so expensive to buy, but they are really pretty simple to make.
There are a few basics to consider when you create your wreath. These steps are for DIY wreaths for any season.
1| Wreath Form
Do you want a round metal wreath form that gets hidden? A more modern wire or embroidery hoop form? Maybe you want a grapevine wreath form that you can see as part of the wreath?
Foam wreath forms are also very easy to decorate.
You can also opt for a wooden wreath frame – either a flat wood round or wood beads.
Embroidery hoops and simple round wire forms are also very popular for a more modern or boho look.
I’ve even seen cardboard cutout as the background for a wreath.
For any tutorial, there is more than one way to skin a cat (sorry, cat-lovers. You know what I mean -i.e. you usually can use an alternate wreath form if you choose).
2| Orientation
Which way do you want your wreath to hang?
Do you plan to cover the entire wreath so you can hang it any which way?
Are you only partially covering your wreath? If so, is the focal point on the bottom? The top? On one of the sides for an asymmetrical look?
If your wreath has a focal point, you’ll need to determine if you want it on the side, top, or bottom.
3| Attachment
How will your decorations be attached?
The most common ways are using a hot glue gun or floral wire. For many wreaths I’ve made, I’ve used both.
Sometimes, with a foam or grapevine wreath, you can just poke your faux leaves or florals right in and they’ll stay secure!
4| Florals and Greenery
Do you want a wreath that’s all florals? All leaves? Do you want a variety of flowers or just one kind? Do you want a mix of greenery and flowers?
You can opt to have individual stems or find a garland you like and use it with your wreath form.
You can also use paper flowers as well as dried flowers for a more rustic look.
Adding in moss can also help create an extra plush look.
5| Embellishments
It’s the embellishments and Easter accents that really separate this kind of wreath from a generic spring wreath.
There are so many other decorative pieces you can add to your wreath.
For Easter, maybe a bird’s nest or a bunny or carrots.
If you like embellishments from nature for Easter, you can try feathers or egg shells or make your own bird’s nest from twigs.
For other holidays, it might be pine cones or bells in the winter or pumpkins in the fall.
Embellishments are a great way to take a simple wreath and customize it to particular seasons.
For example, I have a very plain lamb’s ear wreath that I use for Christmas, winter, and spring! I add bells in the middle for Christmas, white berry stems for winter, and flowers for spring!
For any time of year, a small sign or even just a loosely tied ribbon can bring an entire look together.
Those embellishments are really the finishing touch!
You can go in many different directions when creating a wreath, but answering some of these questions ahead of time might help you determine which style you’re drawn to.
