As moms, it’s easy to feel like we don’t have time or energy for fashion when we are busy taking care of everyone else. But, being stylish doesn’t have to be difficult! A few key items in your wardrobe that all work together can make you look ‘put together’ in no time. Here are 11 essential items for your fall wardrobe that can help you be a stylish mom!
Welcome to Day 5 of All Things Fall! It’s been such a fun week over here, and today we have something just for you moms! On Monday and Tuesday, we focused on dressing up your house. On Wednesday and Thursday, we focused on feeding your family’s belly with delicious, healthy desserts. Today, we are focusing on you!
There’s not a lot I miss about my life before I had my kids; on most days, I feel like I’m in my sweet spot. But one thing I do miss is getting dressed up for work. I was a high school English teacher for 15 years before I had my twin boys. I loved putting together stylish outfits and walking into my classroom in my heels (I’m telling you – heels equal respect! It’s a total intimidation factor!). These days, my typical uniform is leggings, sneakers, a hoodie and a baseball hat (summer version: capri leggings, flip flops, T shirt and a baseball hat!).
The only time I ‘dress up’ is if I’m tutoring, going to a girls’ night (pretty rare) or having a date night (even more rare). But I love putting together a fun outfit, and fall is one of my favorite seasons for clothes (So much more is covered up! So much less pressure! lol).
Below are 11 items that can keep your wardrobe current and fresh. I love that so many of these items can be mixed and matched. You’ll see that right away from the photos – so many of them overlap and accessorize the other. I’m a huge fan of versatility!
As moms, we can sometimes forget ourselves – and at times, that is totally the right thing. But a few fresh items in the wardrobe really can do a lot as far as giving us a little lift and reminding ourselves that we aren’t just moms – we are women, too! There’s nothing wrong with that!
There is no reason a mom can’t be ‘age-appropriate’ and stylish at the same time!
Here we go…
11 Fashion Items You Need to Be a Stylish Mom This Fall
1| Ankle Boots
Ankle boots have been a trend the past few seasons. If the tall boots were never your thing, this is a stylish alternative. They look great with skinny jeans or with dresses and skirts.
2| Tall Boots with Sock Exposed
I’m so glad tall boots are still around! This is more of an updated look on the tall boots, which have been fashionable for a while now. Having a little sock showing on the top gives a more current and fun look! These boots work well with skinny jeans or dresses as well.
3| Sneakers with Skinny Jeans
I love the look of Converse-type sneakers with skinny jeans! It’s a sporty look that really is pretty practical, as far as being a mom goes! We are on our feet so much – I love it that sneakers get the green light for a fashion statement!
4| Long Cardigans
This is such a stylish and forgiving staple in a wardrobe! It can dress up any jeans/shirt duo, and you don’t have to have a model’s figure to pull it off. They are so cozy, and this was my salvation when I was trying to hide my pregnancy before we announced it!
5| Plaid Shirts
Plaid shirts are some of my favorites items in my closet. This is another look that is very forgiving, and it looks great with jeans or leggings. There are several ways you can wear it: buttoned untucked, buttoned tucked, and unbuttoned with a shirt underneath. Lots of versatility! And it’s perfect for all of your fall outings!
6| Chambray Shirts
These shirts have made a comeback in the last season or two! I’m typically a ‘If-I-wore-it-the-first-time-around-I-can’t-wear-it-the-2nd-time-around’ kinda girl. But I would make an exception for the chambray shirt. It’s not oversized men’s clothing, like it was in the 90’s. This updated look is a perfect staple and also has a lot of versatility.
7| Long Tunic Sweaters/Shirts
These sweaters/shirts are the perfect compliment for skinny jeans or leggings. The asymmetrical line is a look that’s really popular now, too! I think the longer look, covering the bum, is definitely mom-appropriate!
8| Blanket Scarves
Scarves have been really popular for a few seasons now. The latest spin on scarves is the blanket scarf. It’s perfect for layering up on a chilly fall day.
This is a really stylish alternative to a heavy and bulky coat. It’s such a fashionable way to stay cozy and warm, and this is another piece that covers a multitude of imperfections!
This piece is a total fall favorite. It can be used as outerwear or just part of a fun fall outfit!
11| Swing Dress
This is such a fun, easy-breezy way to dress up a little! The swing dress is super-comfortable and can be matched with the blanket scarf and boots. If the dress is too short for your taste, a pair of leggings looks great with this also!
I always get a little excited when the weather starts cooling off, and I can pull out the fall clothes. Sometimes, you have a feeling that your fall wardrobe is missing something, but you’re not sure how to complete it. These items are so complimentary that you can pull off a lot of different looks with a handful of items. These fall fashion essentials can really freshen up your closet and help you feel like a stylish mom!
