A Breezy, Tropical-Inspired Summer Tablescape

Historically, we haven’t done a lot of summer entertaining. At first, we didn’t have the space. Then we had young twin sons, so we didn’t have the energy.
However, I’m hoping that will change. As of late, God has really put on my heart to open our house to others – for fellowship, for friendship, for community.
I love creating ‘hypothetical’ proof of concept tablescapes, but here’s believing we’ll have lots around our family table in the future.
The setup today is perfect for any summer party, but I think it would be especially fun outdoors – even poolside!
I think it’s cheerful, bright, and full of life and fun.
End of Summer Party Ideas
I think this idea would be fun any time of the summer, but especially as an end-of-summer-last-hurrah party.
If you’re looking to savor the golden days of summer or bid summer farewell, this tropical end-of-summer tablescape is the perfect way to help set the vibe.
This post includes a tropical pineapple centerpiece overflowing with bright flowers and colorful paper umbrellas. I also created a paper umbrella runner in bright colors, which would tie into any other Hawaiian decorations you wanted to add.
For a fun twist, I incorporated lemon-themed table decor— bright citrusy yellows —to give your tropical tablescape a sunny, cheerful vibe.
The mix of luau table decorations and simple tropical centerpieces creates a vibrant and inviting space your guests will love.
To sweeten the party, you can serve beach-themed Oreo pops —easy to make and always a hit with kids and adults alike.
For added fun, consider a DIY lei-making station, a fruity mocktail bar with mini drink umbrellas, or a playlist of island-inspired tunes to keep the mood relaxed and joyful.
These tropical summer ideas bring the perfect blend of whimsy, color, and fun to your end-of-summer sendoff.
Here’s how to bring it all together:
Sheer Table Layers
Rather than a traditional tablecloth, we opted for a dreamy, beachy look using a sheer white curtain panels as a table covering.
Layered on top is a gauzy sheer runner in white. The runner I used it no longer available, but I also have this cheesecloth runner (in cream, which is why I didn’t use it), which I personally think is even prettier!
The layers feel light and summery, moving gently in the breeze and giving your table an elegant touch without feeling too formal.
DIY Paper Umbrella Table Runner
One of the most playful details of this tablescape is the DIY paper umbrella runner, which I placed on top of the gauze runner.
It’s simply made with a burlap ribbon, and paper umbrellas!
Using mini drink umbrellas in various bright colors, this is a simple craft that comes together quickly and cheaply.

I love the bright colors that it adds to the entire table.
DIY Pineapple Flower Centerpiece
For the centerpiece, we used a fresh pineapple hollowed out and filled with bright summer flowers.
To hollow out the pineapple, it’s easier to use a pineapple corer as you can see below, but I didn’t have one!
After cutting the top off, I just used a long knife to hollow out the inside.
I ended up cutting the bottom off too as I hollowed it out, which made the area around it a little ‘juicy. So, if you’re able to core it and leave the bottom in tact, it will probably be neater.
For the flowers, I just place a drinking glass inside as a vase. You can use a mason jar as well, depending on the size of your pineapple.
I also added extra paper umbrellas for a little extra whimsy.
I placed a small dipping dish under it to catch the juice and keep things neater.
But I think it’s the perfect mix of tropical and floral, adding even more color!
Bud Vases with Bright Blooms
To complement the pineapple centerpiece, scatter small bud vases (or repurposed glass bottles) down the table.
Fill each bud vase with 1-3 bright single stems. This simple addition ties everything together and bring the color palette to life.
It’s also a great way to use extra trimmings from your floral centerpiece.
Lemon-Themed Place Settings
For each place setting, we used:
- Yellow dinner plates for a sunny pop of color
- White salad plates layered on top for contrast
- Lemon-print napkins for a fresh, citrusy touch
- Lemon patterned drinking glasses to echo the theme
- Small paper umbrella at each place setting for just a little bit of extra fun.
It’s fresh, fun, and just the right amount of levity for summer!
You can also add some fun paper straws for an extra splash of sun.

Sheer Runner: The runner I used it no longer available, this cheesecloth runner is a beautiful option.
Yellow Dishes: I bought mine at Big Lots a few years ago, but these yellow striped melamine plates from Target are adorable!
Paper Straws & Lemon Napkins: Dollar Tree
Lemon Drinking Glasses: I got mine at Aldi a few years ago, but Amazon has super-cute options!
Beach-Themed Oreo Pops
What’s a summer party without a sweet treat? These beach-themed Oreo pops are as cute as they are delicious! Each cookie pop is decorated with:
- White melted almond bark
- Yellow and blue writing icing for sun and waves
- Mini paper umbrellas tucked into the stick for flair
I served them in a Dollar Tree decoupaged crate, lined with yellow tissue paper. Then, I covered floral foam in the same lemon-themed napkin and placed it in the crate.
As an afterthought, I decided to add sand to cover the napkin to really create the whole beachy vibe!
Then, just add your Beach Oreo Pops!
