Creative Easter Basket Idea: Rainy Day Theme Rainboots & Umbrella {Budget-Friendly}
Are you looking for something creative for your child for Easter? How about a ‘Rainy-Day’ themed basket (that’s not really a basket!)? Kids love playing in the rain, and this is the perfect way to get them the gear they need! Fill the rain boots with Easter goodies and include a few other items to complete the theme! Plus, get rid of the post-Easter clutter! Keep reading to see what I did for my twin boys!

Creative Easter Baskets, the Latest Craze
It seems to be a pretty popular idea these days to get creative with Easter baskets. Nothing wrong with the traditional basket or bucket, but somehow, someone raised the ante on this.
I’ve gone along with that for a few years now, but my reasons are a little more practical and frugal.
I love a fun basket, but not as much as I hate wasting money and having a lot of clutter after a holiday.
So, for me, I go the ‘clever Easter basket’ route because I don’t want a basket that is going to either create more clutter or end up in the trash.
Every Kid Loves Playing in the Rain (& Needs Rainy Day Gear)
When my boys turned 3, we did watering cans for Easter baskets. They still use them and love them!
Last year, we did beach buckets, which, of course, you can’t go wrong with sand, shovels, and pails.
This year, my boys are 5, and we are getting to the age where, not just that they like to play in the rain and jump in puddles, but I’m willing to let them have a little fun.
But not without proper gear.
So, for this year’s basket, I decided to make it a rainy day theme.
What to Include in a Rainy Day Themed Easter Basket
For the basket, I decided to use these rain boots I found on Amazon. I particularly love them because they had a lot of fun designs, and they had handles on them, so my boys can pull them on and off themselves.
I also wanted to include an umbrella with their basket because I realized, one morning walking them into preschool on a rainy day, that they both loved having an umbrella to hold.
For a rainy day Easter basket, I’ve also seen an open umbrella used as a basket. I didn’t opt to go in that direction because it looked like I’d need a LOT of stuff to make it look full (but that’s definitely a fun option, too!). Instead, I just opened the umbrella behind the rainboots!
Another option for a rainy day theme is a raincoat, if that’s something you think your child will wear or if you’ve been wanting to get one.
Or, you can eve get a plastic poncho from Dollar Tree!
Rainboots Ideas
After searching around, I found that Amazon had the best price on rainboots, and I got this Norty brand, which comes in many designs!
You can also get rainboots at Walmart and at Target also.
Umbrella Ideas
To include with my boys’ rainboots, I used fold-up umbrellas I had in the car (told you I’m frugal), but you can buy them for $5 at the Target Dollar spot if you’re in the store or you can order other brands of kid umbrellas from Target here. I’ve also seen them at Aldi for about $6-7 dollars.
You can order umbrellas for kids here on Amazon. Walmart also had kid umbrellas you can order as well!
Raincoat Ideas
Raincoats are a great addition to this Easter theme, especially if your kid likes to play in the rain (or has been begging you to!). They’re also great for those long walks to the store or into school (once they are open!).
Amazon also has a great selection of raincoats for kids, as does Walmart and Target.
Budget-Friendly Filler Ideas
As for the fill, you can go with non-candy ideas – like bubbles, chalk, stickers, coloring books, Barbie dolls, racers, etc. All of those items would fit perfectly inside rain boots.

Or you can just go with traditional candy. In the past, I’ve gone more of the toy route, but I was sort of lazy this year and candy was the easiest. Blame the quarantine!
If you don’t want to fill up the entire boot (I didn’t), you can use plastic eggs – either with a little candy in them or empty. Or you can fill it with Easter grass, crumpled paper or plastic bags. There’s no pressure to fill it with goodies all the way to the top
Dollar Tree always has candy and kid toys that would be great for filler as well, especially if you’re on a tight budget.

More Easter Fun
