Low Maintenance Easter Activity: Build Your Own Easter Basket
As much as I try to keep Easter simple and Christ-centered, I admit that it can get a little hectic sometimes.
And if you have a big family celebration, with a lot of littles, it can feel overwhelming.
You want it to be fun and enjoyable for them, but at the same time, not really add a lot of extra work to your plate.
If that sounds like you, and you’d like a simple yet fun activity to add to your Easter festivities, a Mini Easter Basket Bar might be just the thing.
It’s budget-friendly, easy to set up, and perfect for families, small groups, or even Easter brunch guests. And, it will save you time and energy in the long run.
I especially love this idea if your goal is to simplify Easter this year yet also add a hands-on activity that still feels festive.
Whether your gathering has little kids, big kids, adults of any combination of all 3, a mini basket bar adds a little whimsy to the day and gives everyone a sweet little gift to take home.
What Is a Mini Easter Basket Bar?
It’s so simple that it honestly doesn’t need a lot of explaining, but I’ll share a few suggestions!
Set up a small table or tray with everything needed to let your people assemble their own Easter baskets. Think of it as kind of like a DIY dessert or treat bar—but Easter-style!
Each person builds their own mini basket from a selection of goodies, treats, and little surprises. It’s an easy way to give a little Easter gift to everyone but saves you time and energy from having to assemble them.
Plus, it allows everyone to pick the treats they like the best.
Win for everyone.

You can customize this to suit your style, budget, or the people who will be there. You really don’t need to be elaborate here and put pressure on yourself.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Mini Baskets or Containers
The size will depend on what kinds of treats you have – and how much fillers you want to provide.
Again, I don’t think these need to be big and fancy. It’s a kind gesture, so do what feels comfortable for you!
Here are a few suggestions:
- Small baskets or buckets
- Mason jars
- Small kraft paper gift bags
- Easter treat bags
- Other plastic containers
You can also print out free printable Easter tags if you want to add a little Easter greeting or personalize it and add names.
I chose to get snack cups from Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby, along with colorful plastic berry baskets from Target.
I wanted both small and medium options, but nothing too big that would take a lot of candy to fill🤣.
I also had treat bags as an option as well.
Filler Options
- Paper grass, crinkle party shred confetti, or tissue paper
- Fabric scraps or fake moss for a rustic look
I just went with simple Easter grass!
Basket Goodies
The mini bar I set up was primarily for kids, so I just kept it simple. Candy only: fun size M&Ms and Skittles, a variety bag of Easter chocolate favorites, mini eggs, peanut butter eggs, and chocolate carrots.
I also put out empty plastic eggs and small bowls of M&Ms and Skittles, so kids could fill their own eggs with those little candies if they wanted to.
If you want to branch out and really make it something special, here are other ideas:
- Homemade treats (cookies, carrot cake bark, resurrection rolls)
- Stickers or small toys for kids (these can also be put inside the eggs!)
- Small candles, bath items, bookmarks, or small gifts for teens and adults
Christ-Centered Basket Filler Ideas
I don’t think you can ever go wrong with pointing guests to the true meaning of Easter. If you want to go that extra step at your mini Easter basket bar, you can:
- Add tags that say “He is Risen”
- Include a small card with a favorite Easter verse (like Matthew 28:6 or Isaiah 53:5)
- Include “Resurrection Eggs” with symbols of the Easter story or Easter Bible verses.
- Christian Easter coloring bookmarks
Display Options
As you might have figured out, I’m a fan of keeping it EASY!
Here are a few suggestions for how to set up your display:
- Place everything out on a long table or counter
- Use a round tray, tiered tray or cake stand with all of the candy items in dishes or bowls
- Spread grass in a tray and display all the candy in the Easter grass for the kids to pick.
