Easy DIY Gift for the Dad Who Love Baseball

Wooden baseball cutout (found at Dollar Tree)

White and red acrylic paint (Red acrylic paint pen works best!)

Letter stickers (also available at Dollar Tree)

Sponge brush or paintbrush

Command Strip for hanging or string |duct tape
Instructions for Wood Baseball Sign
1| Paint the baseball.
Start by painting the entire wooden baseball white. Don’t worry if you get white paint inside the cut-out. You’ll be painting over that.
Let the white paint completely dry. A hair dryer can help!
Then, using red paint, paint inside the cutouts to create the seams. At first, I used regular red acrylic paint in a bottle and a very small paint brush. I even painted the red stitching lines with a brush.
However, I ended up redoing the stitching lines with an acrylic paint pen, and it came out much better.
So for the sake of ease, I recommend just using a red paint pen for all the red paint work.
There’s no certain number of seam lines. Just be sure to equally space them out and make them the same length on both sides of the main curved line.
Let it dry completely.
2| Add the stickers
Once the paint is dry, carefully apply letter stickers to spell out “Dad is Our MVP” across the center of the baseball.
If this is from just one child, you can adapt it to say, “Dad is My MVP.”
Another fun option along these lines is: “All Star Dad”*
*Dollar Tree stickers usually only have one of each letter (well, 2 – but one upper, one lower). “All Star Dad” has 2 lower case ‘a’s, so you’d need a second package or stickers from another store that had enough letters.
I made one version with letters I bought from Dollar Tree to keep this a strictly Dollar Tree project if necessary.
But I found smaller letters from Hobby Lobby and liked the results a lot better.
So for just a little bit more money, I think the result is better.
The Hobby Lobby stickers were a bit more delicate, so take care they don’t rip and that they are placed on straight.
I just eye-balled it, but if you are very concerned about precision, you can place a piece of painter’s tape down for a straight edge and just pull it off when you’re finished.
If you need to adjust the stickers, they come up very easily to be place down again. Don’t worry if they don’t stick as well; Mod Podge in the next step will solve this!
3| Seal with Mod Podge
Gently brush a layer of Mod Podge over the entire surface, including over the stickers. I have used Mod Podge with stickers successfully in several projects!
This will seal everything in place and give it a nice, finished look.
Let it dry completely.
4| Add a Way to Hang It.
To hang, you have two easy options:
Attach a Command Strip to the back for a clean, damage-free way to hang it.
Or, tape a piece of string to the back and create a simple loop for hanging.
Bonus Tip:
If you want to take it a step further, let each child add their name and a little doodle on the back before sealing it with Mod Podge!

*Wrapping Tip: Lay the cellophane down, then place the tray on top. Slide the entire tray & wrapping against the wall and then place the sign in the tray. This way, the sign can lean against the wall as you wrap!
Free Printable Father’s Day Gift Tags

There is a page of each version: “All Star Dad | Happy Father’s Day” and Proverbs 20:7: “The righteous man walks in integrity; blessed are his children after him.”
The tags are 2″ round, which can be cut with a 2″ circle punch.
I also used a 2.5″ circle punch on red and blue construction paper and glued the tag on those to give them a little extra prominence.
These tags also coordinate with Avery 22612 round sticker labels, which you can also stick on larger circle punched cardstock or construction paper, or directly on the gift itself!
For best results, print on cardstock!
