Simple Thanksgiving Tablescape + Free Printable Place Cards

Thanksgiving Decor on a Budget

In spite of the year we’ve had, there still is a lot to be grateful for. And if you’re fortunate enough to have family nearby, then you are doubly blessed.

We are sort of an informal family, but this year, I’m looking for all the the ways to brighten up the holidays. A lot of years, we just do a buffet style. But this year, we are doing it a little differently. I created a post last year on 30 Rustic Thanksgiving Place Settings, and it inspired me to try one out myself this year.

So, here’s how I’m setting it up, on a budget, of course – and here are some inexpensive elements you can add to yours as well.

Items for a Thanksgiving Tablescape

I was going for a more neutral look, especially since I’m transitioning to Christmas decor. That included neutral linens and softer color decorations. Here’s what I included in my place settings.

Placemats

I got these from Dollar Tree. The gray color was a nice neutral I can use at other times of the year, and the square was a little more more unique.

Charger Plates

The wood-toned charger plates add a rustic tone to the table setting. These also are from Dollar Tree.

Dinner Plates:

I just used my everyday white plates for the next layer. Those are from Dollar Tree as well.

Salad Plates

On top, I added a salad plate that says ‘Grateful,’ which were on clearance at Walmart for $.75 each. I didn’t include it in the picture, but you can include drinking glasses and flatware next to the plates, or you can have them set in a different area (near the drinks, perhaps).

Linens & Napkin Rings

The linen napkins, table runner and napkin rings were at Hobby Lobby for 50% off (those all were actually from their Christmas collection, but there are lots of beautiful options from their fall collection.). I wanted a more neutral fabric and I was able to find them in the Christmas section.

Centerpiece

I used my other fall decor from around the house to create a centerpiece. On the table, I spread out painted pumpkins from different areas in my home along with some pine cones. The two white cannisters with wheat I got on clearance at Walmart (one 50% off for $3, the other 75% off, for $1.75).

By the way, right after Halloween is a great time to snag some inexpensive Thanksgiving decor. Stores are clearing out fall decor, and Thanksgiving decor right along with it!

Place Cards

And finally, I added place cards, which were ones I made (and you can get for free, too!) You can use them generically with little sayings or you can use them for actual seating card. Or even for food dish labels.

I created several different versions of place cards because I know everyone is a little different. I used both pumpkins for fall and pine cones which can be for both fall and winter, in case you started your Christmas decorating!

This is a 10 page PDF, with 4 place cards per sheet, with 8 different designs, plus blanks!

Different Thanksgiving Graphics

In one design, I used a beautiful toned-down orange water color pumpkin. That should blend in with most Thanksgiving and fall decor.

If you’ve already moved on to Christmas decor (which a lot of people have!), you can use the ones with pine branches and pine cones.

Customized Place Card Option

As you can see in the cards above, I created a generic saying “So very thankful for you!” in both designs, if you didn’t want to customize the cards with specific names. This works well if you aren’t assigning seats.

I also created an option to customize: “So very thankful for ____________” if are assigning seats. You can just handwrite the names or you can actually upload the PDF to this site, edit and type in the name you want and then print. For free!

Script and Print Fonts

Both designs also come in script and print fonts, in custom and generic. If you are planning to edit the PDF and type in the names in the site above, there are limited fonts available.

If you want to use a script font for a name, I suggest using the a name card that has the main saying printed out, because it will be difficult to match the fonts.

If you want to use a print font for the name, go with the script saying. Again, you can do that in either design.

(In the picture below, I created a quick PDF page with all the design for a mock-up. In reality, you can cut them all the same sizes and none of the graphics are cut off! I just quickly threw together the bottom cards so you can see all the designs, in script and print, in one picture!)

Blank Cards

I also included some blank ones, if you want to customize your own message or name, use them to label the dishes you’re serving, for Bible verses, or really, whatever else you want to use.
