Budget-Friendly Christmas Decor: A Must for 2020
Lordy, 2020 has been a year, hasn’t it?!? Present moment: Thanksgiving is two days away but I’m in full Christmas mode because we all need some cheer. My house is mostly decorated, and as every year, I’m always looking for budget-friendly ways to do it. I’m always about looking at other people’s ideas to get some inspiration (you can see some of my favorite Christmas decor ideas here). I also love putting together some inexpensive DIYs (again, here are some of my favorite farmhouse Christmas DIY and some more if you happen to love my favorite farmhouse Christmas DIYs).
But to check off all my boxes, ideas need to be
- Cheap
- Easy
- Stylish
Sounds impossible, but not really!
Creative Gift Wrapping Techniques that Double as Christmas Decor
One way that I’ve been loving lately, along those lines, is using elegantly gift-wrapped Christmas gifts as decor. It’s soooo easy to do, and it’s soooo cheap! Just some wrapping papers and boxes (you can even use old food boxes)!
I had a friend who did this years ago – she’s got an amazing sense of style (as in, she had a basement filled with old Martha Steward magazines she keeps around for reference) – and it honestly never occurred me to do this!
I was like, “Fake-wrapped Christmas presents? Really?”
But honestly, it’s genius. And you can reuse them year after year.
The key to this is to have your gifts wrapped in a stylish and classy way. And it really is simple to do this within the farmhouse style theme – whether you’re more rustic or modern or minimalist.
Take a look at the collage below for some immediate inspiration to get your wheels turning, before we get into the real post!
A Few Common Elements in Farmhouse Christmas Gift Wrap Ideas
As you’ll see in the list below, there are a few common themes you’ll see in many of them, including:
Kraft Paper
Baker’s Twine
Jute String
Natural Pieces (pine branches, pine cones, cinnamon sticks, etc.)
The beauty is often in the way the elements are arranged, what is added to that base, and how they are put together.
Common elements, but totally different looks.
Be sure to look through the entire list because many options add special unique touches.

You don't have to be super-creative with this. You really can just find some wrap that you love that fits your decor - rustic, modern farmhouse, boho, minimalist- whatever - and just use that with a few embellishments! You can even go with an 'object' theme - snowflakes, snowmen, Christmas trees, etc. (This post also has my best cheap Christmas decorating tips!) If you are into a more minimalist or Scandinavian look, these printable gift tags with Kraft paper and some pine branches are just perfect! How I love the look of this! Natural, rustic, but so classy! If you like a lot of natural, evergreen type decor, something like this would look beautiful! How beautiful is this string garland? What a touch! (And who didn't know Pottery Barn had a blog?!? ) I love, love, love the rustic feel of this burlap sack being used as gift wrap - and it is stunning as decor! You need to check out all her ideas in this post. Gorgeous. Fabric ribbons is another great way to add some Christmas flair to your gift. You can even repurpose fabric or clothes you have laying around or use fabric scraps! Using ribbon is another fabulous way to create texture and add some really unique details to your Christmas gift decor! You don't need to stick to just brown Kraft paper! This red buffalo check is stunning all by itself or you can mix in the brown paper to add a little contrast. Lovely either way. How beautiful is this! I love the creativity to use sheet music. A perfectly nostalgic and rustic feel! This is such a pretty idea! A simple green boxwood wreath and burlap ribbon. A beautiful tag in the middle is just the finishing touch! I'm definitely a sucker for anything with Kraft paper! I love how this one looks with jute string and pine. This is a super-unique way to decorate gifts, especially if your decor has a vintage flair! Gift bags could easily work, and these driftwood tree bark tags would give a nice rustic touch! If you want to step up your wrapping and gift tag game, a fun pom-pom is a great way to embellish a gift! This is a super-fun idea if you really like that rustic look. You can download free printable wood-grain wrapping paper to recreate this idea! Tutorial for that fabulous fur bow is included, too. If artist talent is in your wheel house, custom-drawn giftwrap would make excellent decor! These are done with puff paint, but paint pens or Sharpies would work just the same! Oh my word, how genius is this?!? Keep your eyes open for their Christmas bags this season! Perfect for eco-friendly people who love to repurpose! I love how the baker's twine is stretched around this gift! Put an ornament on top to tie it all together (no pun intended... well, maybe intended, lol.). Here's another way you can use Kraft paper - add a fun design with Chalk Couture or even a stencil! So many possibilities here! This tag is made with an ornament and would look amazing as something to be included in gift wrap decor. If you like a little bit of fun and/or color, I love the boho vibe of this fabric tassel gift wrap! By stringing some fun holiday tags on some twine, you can create any look that suits your style. A few other embellishments and you can make a whole holiday scene! Here's another super cute way to use a gift bag - thread some fabric ribbon through it. Super cute if you're going with a Kraft paper theme! You really can go wrong by taking your gift wrapping up a few notches with printable gift tags. This is a super-easy way to decorate gifts without a lot of fuss! Stamps are another way to add a little bling to your Christmas wrapping. You can make your own as instructed in this post, or you can just use regular Christmas stamps. Either would look amazing! Sponges are another fun way to stamp and decorate a gift, and once you have the method down, there are so many possibilities for this! Navy blue is definitely a trending! I love this crisp, classic wrap idea, and those knots are fantastic! How fun are these little crackers! These can be added as decor under the tree, in stockings, and in all those small nooks and crannies that need a little something! This is a mixture of a few of the ideas above, but I love how it came together...twine, a gift tag and an accent piece.
