Summer Mantel Ideas, All Kinds of Farmhouse Pretty
Once we had our mantel built on our fireplace, it quickly became my favorite spot to decorate.
I had always dreamed of having a mantel to decorate, and seasonal mantels are literally a dream come true for me. The first time I decorated mine (it was for Christmas), I was truly over the moon.
Last year, after I created my spring mantel, I really thought I’d keep it the same the summer. I mean, they are similar enough, right?
But now, I feel summer decor definitely has a different vibe. It’s a different time of year, a lot different than spring.
To me, it’s the total chill vibe, with lots of greens and vibrancy for all of that summer life along with the cool spot to relax on those hot summer days.
Now that I’ve been decorating it for a couple years now, I’ve realized that there’s a spectrum even to summer decorating.
The mantels I’ll be sharing today run the gamete of farmhouse mantel decor – from rustic to vintage to coastal to classic farmhouse to boho to modern farmhouse.
There aren’t strict lines between them – they overlap quite a bit with some subtle changes, but you’ll easily find your own unique style.
Different Inspirational Ideas and Themes for Summer Mantels
As you look through the pictures to get ideas for your own summer mantels, you’ll notice a few themes.
I’ve tried to group them together to make it easier for you to see their distinctions, but as I said, they do overlap a bit, and some can fit in a few categories.
Minimalist
It’s all in the name, right? Minimalist decor is uncluttered, with just a few carefully curated items. It may seem sparse to some, but it is really creating an uncluttered, neat, simple, streamlined look.
Neutral
You’ll see neutral mantel displays, even in summer. Some have the softer tones of woods, neutral tans, whites, with some green. You can even see a little leaning towards cottagecore decor.
Others are a little bolder that include black for a lot of contrast. Even in the summer. This is more typical of modern farmhouse decor.
Some look almost monochromatic with a lot of whites. Again, that is to give a very relaxing vibe.
Any of these neutral summer vignette ideas may include pops of color as well.
Greens
Green and white is another strong theme for summer mantels.
Green is typically symbolic of life and vibrancy, so going with green rather than typical colors you’d see in spring (pastels, etc.) is often a very popular motif for summer decor.
Blues
Blues can be used in so many ways. You’ll see lots of blue mason jars and blue bottles.
It can lean more toward a rustic farmhouse look or coordinate perfectly with a beachy coastal farmhouse vibe, reminiscent of those soothing ocean waves.
You can also see blue in chinoiserie which beautifully compliments whites and greens and even yellows.
Bright Yellows
Yellow is a bright, cheerful, effervescent color for summer. Lemons are a very popular choice – both in hurricane vases and dough bowls as well as on lemon trees.
You can also use bright yellow flowers and forsythias to stay consistent with yellow decor.
Bright Flowers
Fresh bright flowers are a perfect way to add gorgeous summer colors.
You don’t need a specific color palette to use fresh flowers.
You can coordinate with your colors if you choose – for example, staying with white hydrangeas or tulips if you have a white or neutral color palette.
But adding in a colorful bouquet of flowers works with any type of decor.
Boho and Vintage
Both boho and vintage are a bit of a throwback to earlier days.
You can utilize both styles in the same mantel decoration display, or use just one or the other in your vignette styling ideas.
