Spring Mantel Ideas for a Home Decor Statement Piece
One of the most fun areas of a home to decorate is a mantel. If you are fortunate enough to have a fireplace or mantel in your living, kitchen or even bedroom, count your blessings!
We recently just had one created above our fireplace, and it’s my favorite place to decorate. It’s a great way to style an area for each season, with a little bit of decor going a long way.
Today I have some beautiful spring mantel ideas to inspire you.
How Do You Decorate a Spring Mantel?
Once you get the basics of how to style a mantel or even a long shelf, ledge, sideboard or console table, you can adapt it to spring. The concepts transfer over very easily!
If you need some ideas for how to style a rustic mantel, here is a complete style guide for decorating a rustic mantel, with examples from each season!
Have a Look You’re Aiming For
When it comes to decorating a mantel for spring or for any season, really – I try to have a look or feel or vibe I’m trying to achieve ahead of time.
Sometimes it’s inspired by something I see on Pinterest, Instagram or a blog post like this.
Other times, I’ll see something in Hobby Lobby or Home Goods, and that one piece of decor sets a theme.
One time – I saw the flower display for spring in Michaels, and that inspired a ‘Fresh Flowers Market’ theme for my front porch!
So rather than just throwing things together, try to articulate, even just to yourself, the look you want to go for – the colors, maybe. Or the style – like rustic or modern or boho.
Once you have that, you can start to put together your spring mantel. And I should say up front – for me, it’s always a work in progress, lots of trial and error.
I’m constantly swapping things in and out.
Often, I’ll pull together an area and there’s something about it I just don’t love. I’ll usually just keep playing around (often a day or 2 later, to see if I can pinpoint what it needs) til I get it right.
And REAL full disclosure – I don’t always get it right. Some seasons, it’s honestly ‘good enough’ and I leave it at that.
Items to Include in a Spring Mantel
Statement Piece
When it comes to a spring mantel, you want to have you statement piece in the center – or even slightly off center works fine as well.
This can be a sign, a framed print, a window pane, a wreath, a mirror – there are lots of possibilities.
Height on the Ends
You want to have some height on the ends of your mantel. This might include a tall vase or bottle with flowers, candlesticks or chunky candle holders, a lantern.
You can even add a stack of books or a riser for items that might not be very tall themselves.
Layering with Variety
Then, you want to fill in the rest of the area by layering, with items of different heights and sizes.
The possibilities are endless for what you can include.
Bottles and jars filled with flowers or plants, birds nests with eggs, more candles, stacked books, frame signs or prints, terra cotta pots – anything that feels like spring to you.
You can even use non-seasonal decor. For example, your everyday home decor can work just fine if you have a few spring pieces here and there.
Or maybe your color scheme will say ‘spring’ even if your decor does not – pastel spring flowers, bright yellow forsythias – even a wood, neutral green, white color scheme looks amazing for spring.
Add in Garland if Desired
Sometimes, a mantel still might look a little bare.
Garland is a great filler for some of the empty areas. If you know you definitely want garland, you can add it in the beginning and decorate around it.
You can use a flowering garland with some spring blossoms or maybe just a eucalyptus garland.
You may just want to drape beads on the shelf or hang them in front of the mantel.
A bunting type garland is super cute as well as a rag ribbon, pom-pom or other spring DIY.
The point is to make it feel like you.
