So here’s the thing: when we moved from New York to Tennessee about 9 months ago, we had to replace everything. I mean, literally, just about everything. Most of our old stuff from our tiny house on Long Island wasn’t worth the cost of having it shipped, so when we bought a house down here, we were basically starting from square one. As a SAHM who’s trying to piece together a second income through all sorts of odd gigs, I discovered (and wrote about!) lots of ways to decorate and furnish your house on a budget. Currently, we’ve basically gotten most of the essentials for the inside, but with the weather warming up, we need to start pulling together the outside. Which brings me to the post topic today – outdoor dining sets on a budget.
When You Need More than Facebook Marketplace for Your Patio Furniture
My go-to since arriving has been Facebook Marketplace, and if you’re on a very tight budget, I suggest looking there first. That’s what I did. Before the weather even warmed up, I was stalking FBM because I figured people would be spring cleaning and replacing outdoor patio dining sets. And I was right – they were. But even though I’d done really well with scoring some amazing pieces through Facebook Marketplace, it was a bigger struggle to land a deal for the outdoor patio dining set for a few main reasons:
1. All the good stuff that was priced for a bargain went SO. FAST. I mean – minutes. If I saw something amazing and noticed it had been on for…let’s say… 15 minutes… I knew there’d be other people who had beaten me to it. And that was always the case. “Is this still available?” And before I could even hit “send,” the post was updated to say “pending” or “sold.” Grrrrrr. I didn’t give up, but it became very demotivating after a while.
2. How were we going to get it? Now, I did find a few sets that were reasonably priced and would have suited what we needed (I wasn’t being especially particular at this point), but we had no way of transporting it. A lot of the things we’ve purchased through FBM could fit in our SUVs. But tables and chairs likely needed a pick-up truck, which we don’t have. We’ve rented one at Home Depot before, and we would do it again if it is was worth it. But to tack on another $20-40 for the truck in some ways canceled the deal.
Not only that, if it was that amazing of a deal, chances are the seller wasn’t willing to wait for us to make all these arrangements. I couldn’t just go and get a truck at any time because my twin 4-year-olds are with me full-time. My husband wasn’t always available to go after work – and usually, there was a line a mile long of people who could be there to pick it up an hour ago.
3. The super-nice sets were overpriced. I use that word loosely. Overpriced for FBM. If a really expensive outdoor dining set originally sold for $2000 and it was 1 year old, the sellers might list for $750. Now while this is still less than half off the original price, most people who are looking on FBM aren’t looking to spend $750. They’re looking for the bargain like they would at a yard sale, not really compared to what was originally paid.
So, for those reasons, I had to start looking to buy brand new. And brand new, I meant from an online retailer, because we still needed to get it here without a pick-truck, so delivery was the best option.
Online Retailers for the Best Bargain in Outdoor Dining Sets
As I scoped out some sets online, I was actually pleasantly surprised at how affordable – and nice- some of them were! And today I want to share with you my finds. Full disclosure – most of the outdoor dining sets are seating for 4, for under $300. But there are several that are actually seating for 6 in that same price range. And now (end of May) is a great time to buy. Already, really before summer has even started, they are starting to put these sets on sale (Memorial Day sales), and before long, the price will go down even more as they start to clear them out for fall merchandise. (I know. Fall already? Can we please enjoy summer first?)
Just a head’s up – Walmart seems to be the big winner here! Don’t write them off!

2| Mainstays Albany Lane 6 Piece Outdoor Dining Set
This is actually the set we ended up buying! We’ve had to buy so much, we just needed an inexpensive set to get us through a summer or two. Truth be told – it’s still in the box because my husband hasn’t power-washed the deck yet, but I can’t wait to set it up! I’ve actually seen it set up at a few homes in our area, and I LOVE it! Here’s another cute rattan set for through Amazon. The rectangle table offers a lot of space for 4 people, and you could probably squeeze in a few more! Free shipping as well!
4| Alexandra Square 5 Piece Set
This is a faux wicker set from Walmart, selling for $224.98 – and it comes with those adorable striped and butterfly cushions! This is an amazing deal because we all know how much cushions are by themselves! Other purchasers have said that this is a very comfortable set, just the right size for 4 people.
5| Delray 7 Piece Wicker Set
Yup, this is a 7 piece set – seating for 6 – for $299.99 through Walmart! This is made of all-weather resin wicker, in a 2 color weave. The chairs fold up for easy storage, but this is such a fancy take on a folding chair! I love the trendy blue-gray color of this set!
6| Circle Costway Picnic Table with Benches (6 person)
Down the road, a picnic table is what I really want. I love the flexibility of seating, and I think it’s perfect for a farmhouse, rustic type look. To me, it’s so nostalgic of being a kid – I love that these are still around. This set seats 6 and goes for $149.99 through Walmart.
7| Wilson Cafe Mix and Match
This is the one set that’s in-store purchase only, but I thought it was worth including. This is from Big Lots, and basically, you buy all pieces separately (6 chairs, table, umbrella), and it comes to $263.75. That is an amazing price for an 8-piece set. Just wanted to pass that on to you as well!
8| Enola 5 Piece Outdoor Dining Set
I love the white and bright of this set. You can get this from Birch Lane for $219.99, with free shipping! Made of acacia wood, this is an amazing price, and you’ll feel like you’re at an outdoor bistro right in your backyard!
9| Brunton 5 Piece Outdoor Set
How great is this set with the stools?!? I just love the casual, poolside feel of this table. This one is weather resistant, and it’s also fold-and-go! You can take this one with you on your picnics or outings – and there’s a hole for an umbrella, too. Wayfair is selling this with free shipping for $131.99.
10| Buse 5 Piece with Cushions
This is a cozy, relaxing set that is on a closeout price from Wayfair for $244.99 (originally $499,99). This is very similar to the Tangkula set from Amazon (#3), but this one has arms on the chairs and a square table instead of a rectangle. It’s also about $50 cheaper than the look-alike. So, if you like the style of this set, compare the 2 and see which one works best for you!
11| Altheimer 5 Piece Outdoor Dining Set
If you’re into a minimalist look, this is the perfect set for you. Clean, basic, but very trendy and stylish. This is another one that is a fold-and-go set, so it’s very multi-functional. It sells for $283.99 on Wayfair, with free shipping. And I love, love, love the light blue. A very unique look.
12| Giantex 7 Piece Patio Dining Set
This set has a very modern, industrial feel, and it’s a very trendy and up-to-date look for outdoor dining. To me, it’s a little more unique that some of the other sets, and this one is on Amazon.
13 Mainstays Forest Hills 5 Piece with Cushions
You can get this cozy set through Amazon from 3rd party-sellers. Some are a little more expensive but have free shipping, some are cheaper but you pay for shipping. It’s pretty much the same from all sellers. But this looks like you could just take a nap in these chairs once you’re done eating!
14| GDF Vicaro 5 Piece Wood Set
I love, love, love this set! You don’t see many sets in a wood stain finish like this for under $300. This can go with so many styles – rustic, Tuscan, beachside… It also comes in gray and white, each for close to the same price on Amazon.
15| Birch Lane Wynona Plastic Resin Picnic Table and Benches
For all you picnic-style lovers, I won’t let you down. This one’s for you, and it’s definitely in my top 5 from this list. Birch Lane is selling this for $292.99, a fantastic price. It’s made of resin (no splinters in your butt) and it’s high on the list if you are wanting a farmhouse, country style. Seats 6 comfortably. (Bonus pick – Birch Lane also sells this resin picnic table set, with the benches attached, for $259.99)
