Summer Crafts: An Easy Summer Home Refresh
As the warm weather approaches, I’m always looking for an easy way to welcome the summer season in my home.
In theory, spring decor isn’t too much different than summer, but I do like to change up spring decor just a little in something that is a bit more summery.
And I especially love a budget-friendly summer DIY project – the combo of cheap and creative is one of my favorite things!
Summer Decor Ideas to Incorporate into Summer Crafts
Here are a few ways that I think you can incorporate some new ideas for the summer months:
Brighter Colors
For me, spring is usually about the pastels. For summer, although sometimes I like to lean a little green and lush and maybe a little neutral, I just love a pop of color for summer.
Bright reds, aqua, yellow, coral, lime green… all of those colors are perfect for summer, whether it’s just adding a throw blanket in lightweight fabrics, pillows, or colorful flowers in your living room.
And if you feel like that’s too much of a stretch for indoors, you can easily incorporate bright colors on your front porch or back deck and patio.
A few throw pillows, bright flowers in planters, an outdoor rug – all budget-friendly ways to add color without needing to buy brand new decor.
Lots of crafts in this roundup include some fun, bright summer colors – and can easily be customized to the colors of your choice!
Quintessential Summer Items
Flip flops, the sun, ice pops, fruit, tropical items like palm trees and pineapples … all of these items can make their way into your summer decor, whether it’s through wall art, coasters, pillow covers, or small accents for a shelf or vignette.
Beach and Coastal Decor
Beach-themed decor can complement modern farmhouse decor and add a summery touch.
The lovely blue colors of the ocean and sky add a gorgeous touch to neutral decor.
Beach sand, sea shells, and sea glass can all be beautiful accents. You’ll see fun ways to incorporate these items into a picture frame, resin crafts, or wall art also!
Florals
You have a wide range of choices when it comes to summer florals: wildflowers, tropical flowers in a bold color, annuals in planters, or even gorgeous green tropical plants such as pothos and monstera are all gorgeous for summer.
Even a summer sunflower or fresh flowers (even the grocery store variety) in a vase is a classy addition. I especially love using flowers in bud vases as part of my summer decor.
You’ll see a variety of crafts in the roundup below that use flowers – fresh, faux, dried – including suncatchers, candles, coasters, and more!
Small Summer Vignettes
You don’t need to decorate every nook and cranny of your home for summer.
A summer tablescape in your dining room or a few summer accents on a shelf or a summer vignette on a tiered tray…all of those things can add a touch of summer without needing to decorate the whole room or totally changing out all of your decor.
Summer Lighting
I love incorporating ‘light and bright’ into my summer decor. It’s very subtle but effective, especially if you get stuck on trying to put decor together.
String lights, summer candles (with amazing summer scents, of course), natural light with the curtains wide open… you can easily bring the airy summer feel indoors just by the use of light.
Using light is one of the best ways to keep that breezy feeling of summer as your backdrop to everything else.
