I always tell myself I won’t go overboard when it comes time for putting out my Christmas decorations. And my past self is laughing, “Yeah, right.” Anyone else?
I admit, I get sucked into Instagram and Hobby Lobby and Pinterest for all sorts of ideas as early as August. And all the inspiration for Christmas decor just piles up.
The Best Time for Christmas Decorating
In the past few years, I’ve started my Christmas decorating a little early. My goal is to be all set for Thanksgiving.
I know that seems to bury Thanksgiving, but I consider Thanksgiving the kick-off to the official holiday season (kind of like the Macy’s Day Parade).
Since I’m decorated by Thanksgiving, it not only gives me a full month to enjoy the Christmas decorations, but it also gives me back all kinds of time to enjoy the holidays with friends and family.
It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun. And the end result if always worth it.
Balancing a Pretty vs. Functional Christmas Tablescape
Christmas tables are one of my favorite areas to decorate (right after the mantel). There’s an inherent challenge with a Christmas tablescape, especially if it’s one you use on a daily basis.
I really try to make my tables not only pretty but also functional. Some years I succeed. Other years, I just suck it up and clear the decor for dinner just about every night.
Whatever your needs are for a tablescape, you’ll find some lovely examples below.
You’ll see some that are clearly meant for entertaining or are placed on a big enough table that they don’t have to be moved. Other Christmas tablescapes are simple enough for everyday use or can be easily moved so the table can be used.
There are also all kinds of fresh and modern styles as well as updated twists on old favorite styles. Rustic, minimalist, modern farmhouse, boho… examples of them all!
All of them are classy in their own rite and would be perfect whether it’s for your family every day or you are hosting Christmas Eve with an elegant Christmas table or Christmas Day dinner.
Many of them also can transition seamlessly into winter decor, which is something I’m a huge fan of! Get as much bang for the buck out of your decor as you can!
