Simple Christmas Crafts = Great Fun for All

At our church during some of our ladies’ events, we’ve created crafts as a group, and it’s always been a ton of fun.

As someone who likes to craft, I recently hosted my first craft night a few months ago with the girls from my small group.

I had been wanting to do invite the girl over for a while, but I always fear awkward silence.

So I liked the idea of having something to keep our hands busy and thought a craft night would be perfect.

We kept it a casual night of making bookmarks, magnets, and a host of other random things made with the supplies I had strewn out of my table.

It ended up being so much fun, and I’m already planning my next one for Christmas.

A Few Tips for Crafting with a Group

Crafting as a group is a little different than deciding to create a craft on your own.

If you’re planning to have a craft night at your house for a girls’ night in or if your church or community group is planning an event with a group craft, here are a few things to keep in mind.

1| Consider the supplies and budget

As you’ll be having several ladies participating, consider choosing a craft that has supplies that are inexpensive and can be bought in bulk.

Be sure to discuss in advance is those attending need to bring any supplies of their own, if there is a cost if you’re purchasing the materials, etc.

2| Choose a simple project

The main point of craft nights (in my opinion) is the getting together, the chatting, the snacking… the craft is a bonus, but it’s really the community and fellowship.

So, this craft doesn’t need to be a masterpiece. It should be something that’s simple.

Pick projects that don’t require too many steps, advanced skills, or special tools.  Think: low-mess, budget-friendly, and easy to follow. Uncomplicated.

E.g.: Avoid crafts where everyone will need their own glue gun or will have to wait for one to free up, etc.

3| Think about offering options

Offering 1–2 craft options gives guests a choice without overwhelming them. Even better if the craft ideas are adjacent and your supplies can do double-duty.

For example, when I did my craft night, I had a lot of materials on the table (paint pens, scrapbook paper, stickers, stamps, decoupage materials).

But those materials could be used to make several different crafts – bookmarks, tags, cards, magnets, notebook covers, etc.

So you can have a smattering of supplies on the table and then have options for them to decorate ornaments, gift tags, magnets, bookmarks, etc.

4| Prepare in advance

If your craft requires it, bundle supplies for each craft into individual kits or baskets to make the process flow easier. Label anything that needs explanation or include simple printed instruction.

It’s better to avoid a craft that requires too much of preparation ahead of time – unless you have the time for it.

5| Have a sample to show

It’s always easier when everyone can see what the end goal is. Be sure to create an example of the project ahead of time.

It’s important to create a sample first so you can also work through the process yourself.

That way, you can give everyone tips that might make it easier or explain bumps and rough parts of the project.

6| Keep things fun

The goal of the night isn’t Instagram-worthy crafts. It’s for fun and building friendships.

Laugh at all the Pinterest-fails.

Have some snacks available or make it pot-luck.

Keep the vibe light and festive.

OK – let’s get to the crafts for your ladies’ Christmas craft night!

40+ Simple and Fun Christmas Crafts for Large Groups

Did you enjoy these Christmas crafts? I hope so! The goal of the night is to build relationships. The craft is just the icing on the cake.

I think nights like this are so important because especially during this hectic time, we want to remember that friendship and bonding is what is really important.

Remembering Christ’s birth together and celebrating it is important.

Opening your home or church to those needing friends shows biblical hospitality and heart of God.
