DIY Farmhouse Christmas Decor, Coming Right Up!
In my opinion, most of our non-life-threatening problems fall into one of two categories: not enough time or not enough money.
When I was still teaching and before I had kids, my problems centered around not having enough time. I taught high school English, and the amount of time it took planning, creating and grading (oh my word, the grading!) was dizzying.
My nights and weekends were filled up with so many school-related tasks (So. Many. Tasks.).
Now that I’m home with my boys and not working, money is more of an issue.
I have more time (well, sort of – I’m home more, if that’s any distinction; chasing twin toddlers doesn’t always equate to having more time), but not really the luxury of being able to spend how I used to.
Enter: The Holidays.
It’s been a whole new world getting used to reinventing our existence on one budget – and that includes how we celebrate Christmas.
I never was a super-crafty, domestic, Martha-Stewart-type girl. I am definitely more the cerebral, Type A, book-smart girl.
Being a mom and being at home has really forced me to flip my brain a bit and work a little more from the intuitive, creative side.
And that’s how I’m approaching the holidays this year: lots of creative, homemade gifts, decorations, and ways to celebrate that are easy on the budget.
DIY Rustic farmhouse Christmas decor is my latest obsession, so of course, that is the rabbit hole I jumped down on Pinterest.
Today I’m focusing on farmhouse Christmas DIY decorating projects. If you love rustic farmhouse, these projects will be right up your alley! They are truly beautiful.
And if you need some more DIYs for Christmas queued up, here are DIY Christmas Wreaths – classy farmhouse wreaths that are beautiful and original, DIY Christmas Ornaments, and DIY Scandinavian Christmas Decorations, perfect for minimalists!

50 Very Best Rustic Farmhouse Christmas Crafts
This is a very easy DIY that you can create in literally minutes with some hanging bells on a rope, faux winter green stems, and big ribbon bow! Perfect if you love vintage style decor! Keep this one up, for winter, too! I love this one for a few reasons: 1. Super easy. 2. Super cute. 3. The Girl Creative is my sister and I think she's amazing. Seriously. Go make this craft and check out all the other stuff on her site. This is another fun idea for DIY textured Christmas trees, using yarn instead of burlap. So cute! Here's another fun take on a yarn-wrapped tree that's simple and stylish! Works perfectly if you have a little more of Scandinavian Christmas decor! This is a super-cute and easy project if you have some scrap wood hanging around! Using wrapped gifts as decor is an amazing way to add inexpensive bling! Check this out for an abundance of ideas! This one is so, so easy! Cinnamon sticks glued to a thick ribbon, glued around a candle! Insert greens of your choice and done! This is more of an arrangement than a craft, but it's super-easy to put together and has a stunning, charming effect! Such a fun and easy idea for a Christmas tree craft! Put all of these trees together for a varied and wonderfully eclectic look! Burlap banners and buntings have been on trend for a few years now, and if you throw in a 'no-sew' element, definitely sign me up. I love using ornaments like this to hang on hooks or other places around the house! Made from repurposed sweaters, you can create a gorgeous Christmas craft while reducing clutter! And it's made from a Dollar Tree plastic ornament! This is a super-cute craft that is perfect for those small spaces that just need a little something extra! I'm a huge fan of the 'countdown to Christmas' projects, and I just love how this one came together. I promise, this will be a totally unique piece in your house. I love this idea not just for a tree ornament but also for wall decor and those other spaces where you want to hang decor - above islands, from mantels or shelves, in doorways. Love it! This is a fantastic tutorial that you can use not just for your big tree that needs flocking, but maybe for other crafts and projects where you'd like to flock as well. This one looks like a store-bought wonder. I love everything about this one. I love how simple and easy this one is. This can be hung on a wall or leaned against a mantle, or propped up around a fireplace. So fun. If you've got shadowboxes you'd like to repurpose, this is a wonderful way to upcycle for a wonderfully rustic Christmas craft. Advent candles, calendars, wreath - anything to observe the arrival of Jesus is my favorite. I love that this is beautiful decor with significance as well. These specialized Christmas galvanized buckets can get pretty pricey in the store, so this is a fantastic DIY option if you love these kinds of pails and pitchers! I just LOVE this project. This one is definitely on my ‘to make’ list this year. This is another one of my favorites that checks off all the ‘rustic farmhouse’ boxes. Love it. This one does involve some power tools, but the result is just stunning. If you love stenciling or wanting to try your hand at it, this is a beautiful DIY project to include in your home this year! This looks like a complicated project but it really is so doable! And the effect is amazing Oh gosh, this is another one that I love so much. It is such a unique way to display stockings, especially if you don’t have a mantel or other wall hooks. I’ve been all about using mason jars in my home decor lately, and I love how they can be adapted for Christmas with this craft. Just love it. This is another rustic sign I love. With a little wood, stain, paint and stencil, you can make this one yourself! I just love the clean, simple look of this sign. If you are on the minimalist side, you'll love making this one. Stocking holders can be pretty expensive, but I love how these are so personal as well as give a rustic, homey look! This is another beautiful idea for stocking holders - string art! Super-popular these days, and it adds a fabulous, rustic look to your Christmas decor. This is such an easy, simple idea for a Christmas centerpiece, but it looks so lovely. Perfect if you want that Scandanavian look for the holidays. If you love a good upcycle, this is just an adorable idea! There are lots of ways you can use paper bags as tree covers, and they all look amazing. Pine cones are one of my favorite pieces of free decor – I love that you can use them for fall and then just add a little snow for Christmas – and winter after! A ton of bang for the buck! This technique is transferrable for other objects to flock! I adore this sign, and I’m already thinking of so many ways I can put this one together with things I have around the house. There’s many ways you can personalize this look and make it your own! This is made from a free printable! Can you believe that?!? I LOVE this one, and it honestly has given me a ton of ideas to use with all kinds of free printables. It is definitely worth learning how to make this kind of sign, for any season! Last year, I became a HUGE fan of dried oranges in Christmas decor. This tutorial will show you how to make it as a garland! If your decor is a little on the boho side, this tassel garland is super-cute! Love it! Nothing says rustic more than wood slices, right? There are many ways you can customize a wood slice banner – this tutorial gives you a great starting point! I’m always looking for something more unique to hang on my door than just the standard round wreath. I think this is a beautiful, easy-to-make DIY project! Less than an hour, and $15! This is a classic, simple project for a perfect vintage look. Super-easy to make and customize, and it’s a fun one to get the kids involved in, too – DIY decor project and kid craft activity in one – win for everyone! These stockings are sweet and simple, and I love how they are simply displayed as well. This is a perfect mix of minimalism and rustic decor! This one only takes 20 minutes to make, and the effect is stunning! I love that it also can transition seamlessly to winter decor right after Christmas! This was one of my first DIY projects, so you know it was pretty easy to put together! But it’s still one of my favorites! You can customize this with any winter word you’d like, as well! This is a super easy and super cheap craft idea. The frames are made from paint sticks and the picture is from a Dollar Tree calendar! You can use any printable you'd like for this project - any season! This is such a fun idea and can serve multiple purposes! It would look adorable on a table filled with Christmas ornaments, use it as a Christmas Eve box, place gifts inside and use as decor! Gnomes have been so popular the last few years! I love that this is a no-sew project the uses upcycled materials! Creating this is a no-brainer! This was one of my favorite projects to make because first, it's sooooo cheap! Second, it's a Pottery Barn knock-off! And finally, you can put it up for Christmas and leave it up all winter long. Win, win, win. Isn't this one just so gorgeous?!?! Classy, elegant... give this one a try! I love the Scandinavian feel of this project! So simple and inexpensive to make, but it would look amazing with rustic Christmas decor. I can see these cute snowflakes hanging all of the house! I love using nature in decor any time of the year. Using pine cones is a huge bang for the buck whereas you can make this even in early fall and keep it up through the end of winter! Gorgeous rustic charm! If you like a little boho in your Christmas decor, give this one a try! Easy to make and can be made with real or faux pine greens! What a fun way to get a vintage vibe for Christmas! Use Christmas sheet music of favorite Christmas carols as framed art! Genius! I love the soothing feel of this project... the simplicity of design, the flow of the strings. A simple but beautiful addition to your Christmas decor. What a fun way to use blocks! You can customize this to whatever saying you'd like! I love blocks like this to fill in some small spaces that need a little extra Christmas decor! There's something about this one that I just adore. Maybe it's the simplicity and rawness of the first Christmas reflected in this Nativity. Absolutely moving and precious. These candle holders are just gorgeous! I just love the pop of red in such a subtle, understated way!

I love every one of them! I think rustic Christmas decorations are by far my favorite style to use. Pinned for future reference! Thank you!
Don’t you love it, Melissa? It’s my favorite too. We had a soot puffback earlier this year and had to have the whole interior of our house repainted. IT really gave me time to think about styles I really loved – and I definitely landed at rustic farmhouse! Thank you for coming by 🙂
Omg I literally love ALL of these ideas! Pinning this right now!
I know, right?!? I seriously need to get started now! lol Thanks so much for coming by, Jessica! 🙂
Love the burlap trees. I’d love to try those. And a friend used tree rings in her wedding this year. I’m going to send this to her for her Christmas ideas!
That’s fantastic! I hope she can use something! My sister is the creator of the burlap trees, lol! I’ll tell you what you said – it would make her day! Thank you for coming by, Sheri! 🙂
These are AMAZING! I love reclaimed wood anything! Add in Christmas, and even better!

Tons of talent!!! Love everything in this post!! I did notice on one of the galvanized buckets, it says “Smoky Mountain Tree Farm”…are you from East Tennessee/Western North Carolina?
I agree! I love these projects! Funny – I wasn’t living in Tennessee when I first wrote this post, but now I live in East Tennessee! About an hourish from the Smoky Mtns! We LOVE it here!
