Are you looking for inspiration for decorating your kitchen for Christmas? I have you covered! Today I want to share 30 easy ways you can bring the Christmas vibe to your kitchen, without interfering with the real work that goes on there!
The Dilemma of Kitchen Christmas Decor
I’m the first to admit that, some years, I’m a little ambivalent about decorating my kitchen for Christmas. I’m sure you can relate – it’s just so busy in there during the holiday season. Do I really want to inhibit all the work I need to get done in there by adding decorations?
It’s the kitchen. It’s a work area. Is it really necessary?
And if your kitchen is separate than your dining area and living room (which mine is), who is really going to see it anyway?
If you’ve ever asked yourself those questions, too, I get it!
But I’ll be honest. Sometimes I just can’t help myself. For weird unknown reasons, it really bothers me when the rest of the house is decorated, but not the kitchen!
So generally, that side of me wins, and I usually add something.
But I’ve got good news. Today, I’m going to share ideas that are not only easy to implement but won’t interfere with important Christmas preparations going on in the kitchen.
30+ Smart Christmas Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen
Below, you’ll find inspiration for simple kitchen decorating ideas for Christmas. There are all kinds of spaces in the kitchen where you can include Christmas decor.
I’ll give examples of all the different spaces and ways you can add a stylish Christmas aesthetic that’s tasteful and functional for your kitchen business.
Just a side note before we begin – I have NOT included Christmas tablescapes in this list, as I consider that more of a dining room thing.
If you want to see Christmas tablescapes, here are 35+ gorgeous ones you can take a look at!
Ok, on to the Christmas inspiration!
A wall mug rack is not just for mugs! While you can certainly place Christmas mugs on the hooks, you can also place Christmas plates, small signs and ornaments, too! A tiered tray is always a wonderful choice for Christmas kitchen decor! You can stick it in a corner on the counter, on a coffee or hot cocoa bar, on an island! (Click the link to see lots more ideas for Christmas tiered tray ideas!) A kitchen window is a beautiful place for unique Christmas decor! I personally love using items from nature such as pine boughs and dried oranges. You can also hang small jars and include some of your favorite winter greens! A tray filled with Christmas decor placed right on your countertop is perfect for a small Christmas vignette. You can easily move it when you need your counter space for functional uses! I love using a riser for Christmas decor. And it can be useful as well! Here, there are adorable Christmas textiles and soap to make it a pretty and useful space in the kitchen. A gingerbread house is not only a fun Christmas activity for kids! Place it inside a cake stand, and you've got yourself an adorable piece of kitchen decor that also serves as a space to store your creations (which I always struggle with!). You absolutely can use Christmas cookies in a cloch as part of your kitchen decor for Christmas! Again, it's a useful storage place, but having cookies set out on the regular creates a cozy and festive atmosphere in the kitchen! If you have open shelving in your kitchen - whether it's just a small area on a wall or if you've replaced your kitchen cabinets with shelving, you've got prime real estate for kitchen Christmas decor! You can add a few pieces here and there to bring Christmas into the mix or you can completely transform them into a Christmas wonderland without the decorations getting in the way. A window sill is another great spot that's out of the way where you can include Christmas decorations in the kitchen. Here, cookies, a cloche, and a candle all work to cozy up the space. I just love the idea of window garland filling the little window nook above the sink. As the sunlight comes in, it's a gorgeous space for some natural green garland and wood beads. Soooo charming and inviting. If you have an eat-in kitchen with a little breakfast nook, I love the idea of setting it with Christmas decor! While you don't need to have a full scale Christmas tablescape, including some Christmas mugs and plate, a Christmas cookie jar, and maybe a small Christmas arrangement is all you need! A kitchen island is another great area to decorate for Christmas! You can make it as elaborate as adding a running and place settings, or as simple as adding wreaths to the back of the chairs! The choice is yours! If you have bar stools at your island and don't have chairs with backs, you can absolutely include wreaths, too! I love this creative solution for adding wreaths to backless kitchen stools! And if you didn't want to do the full kitchen island set-up, you can create a gorgeous centerpiece! I love that this one is created on top of a large cutting board, which is perfect for the kitchen motif! (You can check out this post for lots of DIY Christmas centerpiece ideas!). Whether it's a small or large hutch, this space is wonderful for adding Christmas decor. As it absolutely lends itself to storage and decoration (as opposed to everyday use), it's gorgeous for including Christmas decor here and there, as well as on top. Many kitchens keep a step-stool nearby to access those to-the-ceiling kitchen cabinets. You can have it work double-duty by add some Christmas decor to it - such as a potted tree or a Christmas dish towel. Christmas dinnerware is not just for Christmas Day! You can artfully stack it on a counter top or island as a picturesque contribution to your kitchen decor for the holidays! You've probably seen gorgeous wreaths hung on top of modern range hoods - this is a great solution if you have a standard hood vent above your stove! A pine swag that hangs horizontally allows you to participate in that trend, even if you don't have a modern hood! A coffee station set up for Christmas is a festive touch to your morning ritual! Use a tiered tray to hold all the essentials, include some Christmas mugs or disposable cups, and a few Christmas accents, and you're all set! Not to be outdone by the coffee station, a hot cocoa bar is a display all its own! Hot cocoa packets, mugs, marshmallows, candy canes, and other toppings are all wonderful additions to a cozy warm drink station. Yes, you can absolutely create a festive Christmas water station! Add cranberries and lime to a large water jar, festive plastic disposable water cups, and a sweet treat mixed in and you have a wonderfully, refreshing drink station! Using cookie cutters are part of your kitchen decor is such a clever idea! Hang them on hooks, string them as garland - even put them in a large, clear canister on the counter! It's such a cozy, farmhouse touch using an everyday kitchen item. If you have pot rack or hook board, there's so much you can do with it for Christmas! Hang some Christmas towel or some winter greens... it's a great little space to throw in some Christmas decor. Cabinets are an easy place to add Christmas decor in the kitchen! Wreaths are super-simple to hang - and there are lots of other creative idea! One year, I hung a large ribbon down my cabinets and hung Christmas cards! If you have a space in your kitchen that serves as something of an entryway or mudroom, this is also a great space to decorate for Christmas! A Christmas pillow on the bench, a mini Christmas tree, an advent calendar - all of it brighten the space for the holidays! Using Christmas towels are one of the fastest and easiest ways to add Christmas decor to your kitchen. Hang them on hooks, drape them over the sink, hang them on the oven bar, place them inside a tray.... a gorgeous way to add a splash of Christmas color ( and take a look at this post to see 6 different ways you can use dish towels as decor!). If you have a plate rack, it's another gorgeous space to decorate for Christmas! And if you don't, this post can show you how to DIY it! If your family celebrates advent with lighting candles each week, an advent wreath is a very meaningful piece of Christmas decor to place in your kitchen. It's also a beautiful reminder of the reason for celebrating the season! Using a Christmas cookbook or decor book in a book stand is another easy and pretty way to decorate your kitchen for Christmas. Open it to a Christmas recipe or festive Christmas photo, and you'll have a piece of Christmas decor using something you already have! Chances are, you've got more than one cutting board hanging around the kitchen. Set them on display (if you don't already), add in a Christmas tree cutting board, and now you've got pretty Christmas vignette in the kitchen! Let's not forget the that the ceiling is some overlooked real estate when it comes to decorating. Hang some coordinated ornaments from the ceiling, and you've just created a magical atmosphere in a place where you'll likely spend a lot of time this season!30 Classy and Creative Christmas Kitchen Decor Ideas
