3 Simple Christmas Tree Ideas for a Classy & Cozy Home

Are you looking for some ideas for a classy and cozy Christmas tree that’s simple! Nothing ornate or flashy, nothing gaudy or overdone? Today I’m sharing 3 simple themed Christmas trees that I’ve decorated in my home to hopefully provide some ideas and inspiration!

A Themed Christmas Tree: Not Just for Fancy People

When I was growing up – and even when I had kids, the Christmas tree consisted for all random kinds of ornaments: handmade crafts, souvenirs from trips, gifts from family members and friends.

It was never about being matchy-matchy or themed. A Christmas tree was just fun to decorate, while you ate some Christmas snacks and watched White Christmas.

And to be honest, I still LOVE those kinds of trees. They are something of a history of your life and family, with so many ornaments having a memory attached to it. They certainly tell the story of our lives, and I never want to give that up merely for style.

However.

There is something to be said for a tree that is themed and curated and coordinated with the rest of the decor in the house. I genuinely love trees like that, too.

Growing up, we NEVER would have had more than one Christmas tree. It just was not in our realm of reality. But these days, it’s really not that odd to have more than one Christmas tree in your house. Heck, I know people who have way more than just 2.

But if you can only have one tree – and there are kids in your house – I definitely recommend the family tree, with the family ornaments.

However, if you are fortunate enough to have space for more than one, I’m going to share a few of the ‘extra’ trees that I’ve done around my house.

And you don’t need to be fancy or high end! You can do it in a way that’s simple, classy, and meaningful.

First, If You Don’t Have Room for an Extra Christmas Tree

I get it if you think there’s no way you have room for an extra Christmas tree. If that’s you, but you’d like another tree, I have a few suggestions.

1| A Porch Tree

One year, I did a decorated Christmas tree on my porch! My porch is not that big – more like an alcove – but if you use a skinny pencil tree, you might actually have more room than you think!

2| An Unconventional Room

While your main living space might not have room for a second tree, think about a different room in the house! A basement den, the dining room, a bedroom – even the mudroom – might have potential for an additional Christmas tree.

3| A Tabletop Tree

If you don’t have room for a full-sized Christmas tree anywhere in the house, consider a downsized tree for a tabletop! This could work for a console table or an entryway table!

Even placing a stool in the corner of the room and putting a smaller Christmas tree on top can work!

Consider getting a 3-foot or 4 foot tree just for this purpose!

4| Rearrange the Furniture

You may not have room for an extra tree in your home right now, but what if you rearranged a few pieces of furniture? Do you have a chair or a table or bookshelf you could temporarily relocate to the basement, garage, or other room of the house?

Maybe there’s a large plant in the corner that can live somewhere else?

I’ve done this plenty of times! In fact, for our family tree, we’ve had to remove an entire loveseat to make room for the tree!

Christmas is such a short season – see if there might be something you can live without for a few weeks.

3 Ideas for Simple Christmas Trees that are Classy and Cozy

When you are doing a special tree, you definitely want to think about a cohesive theme. You may want to go with one particular color scheme, or a particular decor style. Or maybe you want a Christmas theme – like gingerbread or snowmen.

This is completely up to you! You may want to tie it into the rest of your Christmas decor – or you can completely go rogue and do something totally different! That’s the beauty of a separate tree – it can stand alone as its own theme, without detracting from the rest of your decor.

Below, I’m going to share 3 different ways I did my ‘styled’ Christmas trees.

1| Neutral Rustic Farmhouse Christmas Tree

This tree landed on the rustic farmhouse theme primarily through color and ornament choice.

For this tree, I knew I wanted it to be neutral and warm. And I knew I wanted a modern rustic style with a mix of boho chic.

The wood bead garland with the tassels, along with the mini black and white ornaments gave it a little boho vibe. The burlap tan ornaments along with the mini beaded wreath ornaments stayed in keeping with the rustic farmhouse look.

2| Names of Jesus Christian Christmas Tree

I found these Names of Jesus ornaments a few years ago on Amazon, and I knew I wanted to theme an entire tree from them.

Jesus TRULY is the reason for all the celebrating, and I wanted a tree that placed Him front and center. Literally. This tree actually went out on my porch – that’s how much I wanted it front and center!

It’s simply decorated with Names of Jesus ornaments, clip on candles (my favorite!), and white lights.

3| Elegant Minimalist White and Gold Christmas Tree

Last year, I knew I wanted a white and gold theme for my Christmas decor. And I knew I wanted the tree to carry the vibe in my house.

I started with a new pre-lit tree. Y’all. I’ve never had one of these before, and it was a game-changer! It literally took 15 minutes to set up. No twirling layers of white lights inside. And best of all – no fluffing. Worth every single dime. I will never go back.

I wanted more of an elegant, minimalist look… something of an old English feel… something Jane Austen-esque.

For this tree, I first started with clip-on candles, gold bead garland, and ribbons of gold, cream, and champagne.

While it achieved the minimalist look, it didn’t quite feel complete.

I added white and gold ornaments, and that was just what it needed! This tree is one of my favorites, and I don’t see myself deviating from it at all in the years to come!

A Simple Themed Christmas Tree: An Elegant Addition

I hope I convinced you that having a themed tree – either as your main tree or second tree – doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. Whether it’s a color palette or a decor theme or just a mix of some of your favorite things, it doesn’t have to be elaborate or overdone.

Simple is elegant. Simple is classy. Simple leaves time for what’s most important: Jesus. Family. Friends. Memories. Celebrating the day that history hinges on and changed our destiny for the eternal good.
