Are you looking for easy DIY Christmas gifts for family? Check out this fun list of homemade, budget-friendly ideas for parents, siblings & the whole family, from edible treats to keepsakes to everything else in between!
Why I Love Making Homemade Christmas Gifts for Family
There have been years when my sisters and I have decided to make homemade Christmas gifts for the family. During a busy season, it might feel like, ‘Is this really worth it?’
And I honestly think that precisely because it is a busy season, it’s definitely worth it. It’s a forced way of slowing yourself down, to think of the person on the other end, and invest one of your most precious commodities into that gift – your time.
I know – it’s so much easier to click ‘add to cart’ on Amazon. But that Amazon gift probably won’t earn the place in your family’s heart that your homemade gift does. Without saying it, the gift communicates that you see that family member as worth the time and effort – and even the sacrifice. An Amazon gift can’t really do that.
Today, I want to share lots of different ideas for you.
I’ve organized these homemade Christmas gifts by type — edible treats, photo keepsakes, cozy handmade pieces, quick and cheap project, small gifts, and a few “for the whole family” ideas.
Most come together in an afternoon, won’t break the bank, and many are simple enough that you can get the younger kids to help. Maybe this will be the year that Christmas gifts feel special again.

Let’s get to it!

- What can kids make for family members? Handprint ornaments, decorated mugs, and photo keepsakes are the classics — simple enough for little hands and treasured by grandparents. This post has idea specifically for kid-made gifts for the family!
- What’s a good DIY gift for the whole family to share? A game-night or movie-night basket, or a family memory jar — one gift the whole household enjoys together instead of individual items.
- How far ahead can I make these? Most non-perishables (ornaments, candles, scrubs) can be made weeks ahead; edible gifts are best assembled within a week of giving.
